This week we will be visiting our regular doctor (there were no beds available in Williamsport on Wednesday, so went to Geisinger), and hope to have things back to normal as soon as possible. Thanks again.
By John Shaffer By now many of you readers are aware that your editor was on the sick list from early Wednesday morning (about 2:30 am) through 2:00 pm on Saturday. We had pneumonia and some very low blood counts. The good news is that there is no indication that the lymphoma has relapsed. We are gaining strength and are recovering each day. We thank everyone for prayers and kind thoughts. All the medical personnel we dealt with were top-notch, whether in Troy, on the ambulance, or at Geisinger, and we thank them all very much. Special thanks to my wife, and the staff of the newspaper, for doing their usual great job, and for keeping things going in our absence; and to our daughters who came from New York state and Alabama, or sent prayers from Nashville, and to my brother who drove down from Maine. There were some “Canton connections” during the week. A nurse at Geisinger was a college roommate of two Cantonians; a couple of the nurses had visited the Apple & Cheese Festival (and one suggested that event be promoted in the Danville area more extensively); several of the people down there had passed through Canton at various times; and the admissions clerk was a lady from Canton, Kansas, whose husband took her to “our Canton” for a visit. She remembered several things about our community, which she says is about twice as big as her Canton in Kansas. We gave a copy of the newspaper to her. Our daughters bumped into a former Cantonian and her son in the hospital parking lot, and they visited one of their former high school teachers, who also was a patient at Danville.
