Before I forget, congratulations to our great-grandson Jaden Brown of Lehighton. He is an integral part of the Pleasant Valley football team and they just completed another undefeated season and now enter the playoffs. This is the Jaden who also races, and is headed for a career in auto racing, probably NASCAR. (Well, that's what he told me.)
I didn't report my wife's reaction when I told her about the neighbors harvesting seeds. She made some remarks about "I don't have time for that" and "I can just buy new ones." When said neighbor visited one day last week she brought an envelope full of seeds as a gift so I guess we won't hear any more about that.
We were visited by stepdaughter Shelly on Saturday. I'm not sure if she really wanted to spend time with us or the fact that the three little pigs she considers pets were scheduled to become ham, bacon and all kinds of good things. Yes, when they are small they are cute little pets but at 250 pounds they become something else.
We took her to the church for breakfast and of course we had ham. Due to a planned power outage promptly at 9:00 am we ate by candlelight. The generator did not perform as it should. Nothing new there. Ironically the day before the power went off I started both of our generators at home to make sure they were ready for winter.
I spoke with Tom Young of Young's Real Horsepower fame and asked what he was doing to occupy his time and he said he had a lot of naps to catch up on. I can relate to that.
Much of the rest of Shelly's visit was spent looking at pictures of (of course) great-grandchildren Carlin in Illinois reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and his sister Penelope, all through the magic of a hand-held device that does everything but walk your dog. Skype, Hype, Tweet, and Twitter whatever. And I'm sure this will ruffle some feathers but tell me why anyone needs a cell phone in school? Does a teacher have the right to say "no" to cell phones in class?
Now for a few more whys:
Why do the male members of Hillary's staff average $16,000 more than females? Why do we have embassies or consulates in 270 countries? What do they do? Why does Planned Parenthood sue the government if they cut off funding?
I won't get a raise in Social Security in 2016. Can I sue anybody? Why can't the football coach pray with his team? Because one person complained? Where is the rest of the town? What happened to the First Amendment? My advice - keep on doing it and when you are arrested or carried off in shackles then your team should not take the field. One person does not define what is best for everyone else, no matter what the President thinks.
There. Now I feel better and If I knew all the answers I would really feel good.
