While I was "down back" I spotted some "evidence" of a bear apparently wandering about in preparation of a long nap. As I was working I noticed our neighbors Kenny and Jennett spending a lot of time near the now dead morning glories. After a short time my curiosity got the best of me and I was forced to go across the street to find out what was going on. Our middle of the street visit turned into a lengthy discussion about saving seed pods for next year plus some politics and most important Kenny's upcoming trip to Washington DC via the Veterans Flight which will take him and his granddaughter to the Capital for the day. His granddaughter is going because she is from another generation.
If any of you care I have one more Florida story about an event that took place on US Route 1. As anyone who has ever traveled on this road knows, it is a limited access four-lane that has a lot of traffic. While traveling south on this road with all four of these women, suddenly all traffic in both lanes came to a complete stop. Cars, motorcycles and three tractor-trailers. The reason? A very large turtle was in the middle of the road. As we sat waiting a woman got out of the first car and carried the turtle to the west side and placed him or her on the grass. I hope that was the direction he had in mind. Oh, if you don't care why are you still reading? My youngest daughter has a great picture of the lady and the turtle. I don't think either of them were wise to be in the middle of a highway like that because many of the drivers in that area are well into the senior citizen category and if on their way to a hair appointment or bridge club they can't be bothered by a turtle or an occasional armadillo crossing the road.
We received a call last week from friend and fellow antique tractor club member Barb Johnson to inform us that her husband Frank had passed away. They are the folks who held the annual Fourth of July Tractor Show at their home near Millport, NY, keeping only expenses and donating a lot of money to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of the Southern Tier. Frank always made sure all ran smoothly. He worried about rain, not for himself but he was afraid someone would get stuck or not have a good time. Barb said he would want the event to continue and she promised it will.
Another road trip to Exeter with son-in-law, grandson, and his friend, so we had driver, navigator and two furniture loaders. We found the seller's home and made it safely back to Canton without hitting anyone or losing anything so no news there.
I think I will do nothing today. I started yesterday but I didn't get finished so I'll do it tomorrow. Have you ever read the fine print and still didn't know what it said? Why are children taught not to take candy from strangers, and then have Halloween?
