Well, something did happen. We were asked to supper at Mitch and Lisa Belawske's because she has not yet learned how to cook for less than six or more people. This time it was 5 1/2 of us so it came out about right.
Florida was nice. A couple of 90˚-plus days then settled back into the 70s. I'm not real impressed with some of the rules at airports but I suppose they are necessary. We boarded at Allentown after spending the night before in Mt. Pocono at the home of Beth and Anthony Brown. At the check-in I was given a hard time about the portable oxygen tank I was carrying because I did not have a form from my doctor stating that I knew how to use it. Of course, once in your seat you are shown how the oxygen mask will drop down for you to use if you survive the crash from 37,000 feet!
This reminded me of the time my 2 1/2 inch pocket knife was confiscated before a cruise; then once onboard I was provided with a 6" steak knife for dinner. I'm still waiting for someone to explain that.
On the trip home at the Orlando airport I was "selected" for a "pat down" due to an anomaly that showed up in the X-ray. They already had my shoes, my cane, my inoperable oxygen because I did not have a permission note, and my wallet, so I really wasn't much of a threat, but I guess even the TSA can have a little fun once in a while and they really were not that busy.
This trip, according to some, would be so nice for myself and my daughters and described it as a bonding experience. What was not known by the outsiders is the fact that there is a third daughter (albeit a step-daughter) which if all three had gone all of us may not have survived the trip. All things considered Florida is nice to visit if you have relatives. If it were not for visiting my oldest son the heat and the oversized bugs and undersized lizards would not cause me to make the trip.
Let me clarify my statement concerning daughters. They all get along fine and my concern is that I would be the one arrested for assault. Imagine three women, a baby and one old guy in a rental car that even after an upgrade wasn't big enough. Now add another person (woman) and you realize why my standard phrase throughout the trip was "whatever you guys want" and "we can eat whereever you want to." One of the best parts of the visit was watching great-granddaughter Arianna walking, since she had only acquired this skill a few days before our arrival and me being the eldest I did not have to chase her. Age does have its perks.
The flight down and back was pretty much uneventful other than the "frisk" and what I considered to be a rather hard and very fast landing. Something must have been out of the ordinary because when we finally stopped at the wrong gate everyone cheered and applauded.
Our thoughts and best wishes to Linda Thomas down in Ridley Park, PA. She has recently returned home from the hospital. And to our Sister Street neighbor Carol Bastion who is spending a few days at the Towanda Hospital.
And Sunday morning at 4 am we were greeted by a blanket of snow. Of course I'm not ready. I hope the weatherman is right and a warm-up is coming.
I'm not sure what Hillary has been up to while I was gone but I am sure it will be interesting.
In the "you folks don't really care department": did you know that the Port of Philadelphia is the largest fresh-water port in the world?
