I guess the biggest Sister Street news is our neighbor Kenny has been seen driving a brand new car (and it's red) around.
Imagine my surprise upon returning from town Friday to find my wife hand-washing the car and then waxing it also. I suppose she was getting some frustrations or aggressions worked out. She did that last week with some hedges and now we have hardly any left. I'm lucky she usually does these things when I am not nearby.
Another neighbor, the Mattocks have been doing some remodeling on their front porch and it looks very nice.
After missing a couple of breakfasts at the church due to commitments, and as daughter Beth says, "our social calendar," we made it last Saturday and were joined by the Hojnowski family, all three of them. This is rare as I don't know how they ever find time to eat let alone all at the same time. In the few minutes we spent together we learned Tricia was on her way to Troy and fair duties and Tom decided to stop in for breakfast as he was waiting for hay to dry. Tracy referred to various pieces of farm equipment as lawn ornaments. At least they are changed often.
Recently I took a ride over to Troy (why do we go over to Troy and down to Canton?) to visit former neighbors Glen and Mary Bailey. Although we had a nice visit about many things I must admit my ulterior motive was to look over Glen's mobility scooter. I figured if he had one of those things I could take it to music festivals and tractor shows and become one of those annoying old people who are always in the way and getting ahead of everyone else. Glen has a high end version with all the bells and whistles and I like it. I talked with a couple of my doctors about one of these and they both agreed I was a candidate. However, if one is approved by Medicare for partial payment you are required to lie and jump through a lot of "hoops." Well, if I could jump through any hoops at all I wouldn't need the thing. So if you see me cruising around Alba rest assured there is no government money or any of your tax dollars involved.
I suppose I could have purchased another antique tractor but that idea would meet with a lot of resistance and could cause another bout of frustration and aggression. Speaking of tractors we took one over to Troy for the Fair on Friday. It will stay until Sunday along with a bunch of others. It's nice to look at these old machines and think back to what it was like to spend all day on one; not inside with air conditioning, heat, radio and who knows what else. I recall plowing for a neighbor (Elwin Roberts) with a Farmall H and that didn't even have fenders to lean on. Still after two or three hours purring along drifting off to sleep would have been easy. Not wise but easy. How did I get off on that subject?
Happy birthday wishes to oldest son Chris in St. Augustine, Florida. He celebrated number 52 on the 29th. Now I really feel old.
Speaking of tractors I came home one day from one of my outings to find my real small one outside in the yard. Now I never leave any of my equipment sit out no matter how worn and beat-up it is but I soon realized great-grandson Jake II was spending the afternoon so he and "Gigi" decided to go for a ride or two or three.
Now let's see - we release $150 billion dollars (yes kids, that's billion) back to Iran for what reason? So they can continue to hold four Americans - a reporter, a pastor, a Marine and an FBI agent. And Hillary walks in smiling like the cat that ate the canary and clapping like a four-year old on Christmas morning. Remember "Tricky Dick" Nixon? He had tapes and Hillary has e-mails, or does she? I hope this doesn't turn into a definition of the word "is."
