I've also read about not touching string beans or cultivating them when wet. I think I dispelled that myth. Out of the five or six plants that survived the great rabbit attack I have picked two times and they are still covered with blossoms.
My potato peelings are growing well but when looking for weeds I found a volunteer tomato (one of four total) doing well amongst the spuds. I read once those two would not do well together. I guess they don't know that.
If I didn't have any cucumbers growing, where would the cucumber bugs go? Are they smart enough the travel a distance to find more? I found a row of onions that missed the spring weeding (actually I ignored them). After studying the weeds and onions for a day or two I decided it was easier and more satisfying to pull the onions and mow down the weeds later. It's on my list.
Now for some developments on Sister Street. Former neighbor Sharon Wesneski was badly hurt at work. We wish her well and a speedy recovery. Tom (almost a farm) Hojnowski has been seen cruising about with a new or newer tractor, much bigger and not red. He is not really a Sister Street resident but has property here.
We have a new grandmother on the street. She's the one who does not want her name mentioned in the "news" but we couldn't help but notice the large "It's a boy!" balloon flying from her mailbox.
We were in Towanda recently on some official business and I must say the lady we spoke with was very helpful. I don't know what her politics are nor do I care. Maybe she is not even elected. Imagine her surprise when a Deputy Sheriff came up behind me and took my arm. As I turned I realized it was one of our granddaughters who has been a deputy for a year. Seems like yesterday.
I usually take notes and use my own brand of shorthand. As I was trying to sort out my thoughts; and also my notes, I received a phone call informing me that my cousin Marsden Matson had passed away. I sat quietly for a while and decided the news can wait.
