This is all quite neat but I worry about some neighbor children who spend a lot of time near and maybe once in a while in the water. The fact that there are some not too old kittens nearby makes an irresistible combination for a child. And you don't tell a child not to play in a creek, stream, whatever. That would be a horrible thing to tell children. Almost as bad as telling them not to play with kittens. Fortunately they usually have an older sibling along with them.
The biggest reason for telling you all this is to get folks to slow down in Alba. We have children all about and sometimes kittens. There is nowhere you need to be with your little four-cylinder car with a muffler the size of a stovepipe that requires you to see how fast you can get from one end of Sister Street to the other.
I'm writing this edition from Centre Hall, PA. (Why is it spelled that way?) But before coming here last Wednesday we took in the Canton Firemen's Fair Tuesday evening. Having had our supper at home (we both forgot about the fair) all plans for hot sausage, pizza, etc. were gone. However, after running into our friends Ed and Elizabeth we did have a dish of ice cream. Ed paid for it and if you knew him you would be as amazed as I was when he announced, "It's on me." He is one of the cheapest - er, I mean frugal - men I know, so by his generosity it will become one of those memories that last a lifetime.
The field was in pretty good shape considering the weather we have had lately and the firemen are to be commended for the time and effort spent to make it usable by Tuesday.
Now about Centre Hall. We are here for another one of those Bluegrass Festivals held at the Grange Fairgrounds. A nice facility well-suited for an event like this. We camped near old friends Jim & Donna, Glen & Mary and met some new ones, Bill & Peg. They are from the Philadelphia area and Bill grew up in Ridley Park, PA, and any regular reader of this report knows that is where Charles and Linda Thomas reside, so we had a lot to talk about.
Jim and Donna are from the Poconos, not far from where my daughter Beth had her first "real" job. Most of the others we have known long enough that we have nothing left to talk about.
We met and had lunch with a couple from State College. They are formerly from Liberty, PA. Small world. I also visited with several folks from both North and South Carolina. All agreed this business with the Rebel flag offended nobody until they were told it should.
One of the performers, who lives in North Carolina, joked about using the flag to wrap up all the sharks being killed because they are doing what sharks do when their territory has been invaded. It's not like they waded up on shore and frightened us.
Many of the men I spoke with had ancestors who fought for what they believed was a just cause. So if the Rebel flag is a symbol of that bravery and commitment, who is to say they can't have it?
Oh! A belated happy birthday to twin grandsons on reaching the age of 24.
If all candidates have a plan to fix all of our problems, why do we have to wait until 2016? Why don't they start now? Did you know there are 15 candidates (Republicans) running for President?
