The Sister Street Bridge Commission has not held a meeting for several months so I think it should be disbanded. Our few meetings were usually held in the middle of the street at the job-site anyway. I made it a priority on my things to do list last week.
I took a few minutes and called a couple of cousins and a friend or two to ask about their health and well-being. Try it when you have some time and/or maybe not feeling so good yourself
I mentioned last week about walking on top of a crust of snow and two of my readers reminded me that 60-plus years ago I was not very heavy so a crust should have easily been walked upon. After some thought I suppose they were. One of them, a fellow tractor club member, mentioned it and let it go. The other gentleman (a relation, no less) went so far as to estimate my weight then and accuse me of being ten times that now! Well, after giving this some thought I have to agree.
Congratulations to Darin Matson on his promotion and new role as COO. This should be front page news but I noticed that is taken up by politicians. Well, some other worthwhile things are on the front page but you get the idea.
Congratulations also to granddaughter Ashley who is the oldest daughter of my youngest son. She and Mark are planning a September wedding. I just learned of this but I guess the rest of the world knew via Facebook. You know that's the place you go if you want to find out what everyone you don't know has been up to, how much money they make, where they spend it, how many kids are in the house, and when and if anyone is home. Then tomorrow after everyone has an online argument (that must be fun - a fight with no sound) you can defriend one or more of them and get a whole new bunch in about five minutes.
We actually know a person who posted how much her paycheck was and when she (alone) was going to cash it at what bank. And she was a brunette. I prefer not to let all know every move I make by way of the Facebook page. I'll tell you in the Sister Street News if it's really important.
Outdoor writer Jim Collins' story of a deer encounter at Lincoln Falls reminded me of the time in the late 'sixties. A fellow and I were fishing over on the "Schrader" near Laquin. We were near one of the old S & NY Railroad bridges (remains of some of these are still evident) when as I was climbing the streambank I lost my footing and finished my ascent on hands and knees. I I did manage to keep rod, reel, bait and myself from falling backwards into the icy stream but as I reached to top of the bank I came face-to-face with a huge black bear. Well, in my eyes that day and in my memory still, it was a large bear. I suppose he had not been long out of the den and a good winter's sleep so may not have been fully awake. I don't recall if we caught any fish or not.
Spring can't be too far off as the seed catalogs are about every week now and bluegrass festivals and tractor shows are beginning to show up on the calendar.
Monday the 16th of February at 4:45 am it is 8 below here on Sister Street's west end. Usually about five to six am it will drop another one or two. Ironically, some guy is on TV right now ranting about some of us not recognizing global warming or climate change. Well, I certainly have not seen any evidence in the recent weeks. I have my own theory but if you look into it it doesn't make much more sense than anyone else. The weekly weather report from St. Augustine said they had 60s and 70s last week which led to a 130 mile ride in the country. However, Sunday night 30s were predicted. His significant other has complained about her foot being sore. When she finally decided to see the doctor she had a fractured bone in her foot. No one knows how this happened because her workday consists of sitting behind a desk all day. She does have her own motorcycle now so maybe she tipped it over and doesn't want to own up to it.
Speaking of jobs my youngest daughter is among other things a sort of event coordinator. She recently set-up a conference call with several of her company's offices in the US and Canada. Although they did not contribute much the only two people who showed up at Cambridge, Massachusetts stood in front of their building in nearly six-foot snowbanks and waved.
Cindy's daughter Shelly returned from her trip to New Mexico and after two layovers of four hours each (Phoenix and Philadelphia). Isn't Phoenix west of New Mexico? And the luggage also got back.
Now, your question for the week. If a female terrorist suicide bomber carries out her mission, does she get 72 male virgins? Well, the men do, so they say, but who can confirm it?
