Saturday afternoon we were visited by grandson Derek and his significant other Avery and their seven week old daughter, Arianna. She was presented with a pumpkin about the size of a cantaloupe and a larger one for her big sister Serenity who was also visiting us and her great great grandmother Irene Matson. I “grew” about a dozen of these mini-kins and a couple of bigger ones. Not bad for not planting or taking care of these in any way. Three went to Mt. Pocono and three went to Canton.
Speaking of the Poconos, our grandson Shaun and significant other Jess live just off Rt. 447 near Canadensis so recently have been confined to home a day here and a couple days there. On one of the mornings not too long ago she opened the door to go to work and came face to face with a large horse. When asked what she did, she calmly stated “I took a picture.” To say this is surrounded by remote areas is the understatement of the year. The youngest daughter and son-in-law, once lived in the village of Cresco very near the search area. A person could walk behind their house the length of a football field and not know where you came from. Woods are so dense one could not hear the traffic on the road or see another house even though there are many not far away. This area also has many more of the abandoned resorts, such as the one at Buck Hill Falls. This has been empty and in disrepair for more than 20 years. Add that to lots of no longer used homes of former rich and famous or they thought they were until they found out they could not afford to live in the mountains. Do I think the police have this guy cornered? Yes! Do I think they are being overly cautious? No – I think they are doing all possible to avoid the type of headlines no one wants to read. Some of my so-called coffee drinking friends who are convinced the shooter is in Mexico or Canada will be the first to exclaim, “Aha! I knew he was within three miles of his home” and deny ever saying anything different.
I thought I would end the report on that note, but I just heard on the news that some restaurants are offering discounts and other perks if you do not use a cell phone or text while at the dinner table. “WOW” living in the past, as I have been accused of, does have some benefit.
