One girl that i knew as a student, neighbor and friend was Alice Mott Packard. Our good friend Pauline Mott helped me to get in touch with Alice. She is in good spirits and very active but she misses each of her brothers and sisters for she is the only one still living.
Now as to the bobsled ride. Alice remembers it well. At that time the girls were in one homeroom and the boys in another. One of the Home Ec teachers was Mrs. Fulton. Alice remembers that she was a favorite teacher. Anyway, Mrs. Fulton must have promoted the ride.
We had two heavy work toboggans. I recall going to see if we could hire Tom Brann's toboggan and his teamster and horses. He agreed, then I had to persuade my Dad to let us have a toboggan that was used at the mill and the mill teamster.
I think my Dad rather enjoyed helping us. We must have boarded at the school and headed up to Minnequa. Alice remembers we stopped and had hot chocolate and sandwiches at Mr. & Mrs. Fulton's home. They lived where the Zeiglers do now.
This past cold winter brought the memory back to me. Another person who would have been on this ride was Ruth Bergquist, wife of Bill Ward, and aunt to the Wheelers. She passed away just last summer, Steve Wheeler told me.
Alice told me that her family had an auto agency in Dansville, NY and that her grandsons still operate it.
