He called down below, “Can anyone help me!?” There was no one around. After several attempts while losing strength and then, out of desperation he called upward, “Can anyone up there help me!?” He then heard a booming voice from above say, “Trust in me and let go.” After several seconds of consideration, he then looked up and asked, “Can anyone else up there help me!?”
At first this seemed like just a story to me, until I realized that there might be things in my life that I was still, “holding on to.” I had to do a little self-examination. How about you? Do you feel like the hanging man? Is it difficult to let go and trust God with…your life, family, finances, future, everything? Perhaps you are like many who trust God with some things, (maybe smaller, less important issues) but choose to keep control of, (or not give up) others. Possibly like the skeptical man holding on to the eaves trough, you only call on and trust God as a last resort. Is it like, “I know you are there and I’ll call you when I need you.” How do you think God views that?
A man asked Jesus what was the most important thing in this world, Jesus said to him, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matt. 22:37). Again in John 14:1, "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”(NLT). God does not lie. If He says you can trust in Him, you CAN trust in Him. He also says He should be number one in your heart, soul and mind, (everything in your life). This does not leave much, “wiggle room” in what we think we should keep control of.
The good news is that He is much more capable of handling all aspects of our lives than we are. Are you willing to bet that you can manage ANYTHING in your life better than God? So why do we still choose to hang on to things? Are you still trying to do it on your own? Let go and let God. See what happens. Something to think about…
Here are some things to ponder: A farmer in the field with his cows counted 196 of them, but when he rounded them up he had 200. Did you hear about the new corduroy pillows? They’re making headlines everywhere! My friend recently got crushed by a pile of books, but he’s only got his shelf to blame. Pampered cows produce spoiled milk. Dry erase boards are remarkable and finally… Atheism is a non-prophet organization.
