Apparently the Eagles had said that about 70 members of the team would be present, but this week said that only about ten or so could make it on the original date so asked the President to reschedule the event for a week later –
Well, it is regrettable that sports teams and Presidents won’t forget their personal beliefs for a few hours and simply allow a celebration of their victory. We think these White House celebrations began for the purpose of honoring the teams, with perhaps a side order of a President basking in their glory; but over the years have degenerated into a President taking the center stage, basking in his own glory, and the team relegated to a stage prop, making it more a political event than a celebration. Yet, it is sad to stop a nice tradition.
