The meeting began with members filling out the annual information form to keep the Area for Ageing office updated.
Following that, Beverly Halstead from Canton gave an interesting and informative talk on "feed bags' which were popular beginning in the 1930's. Grain bags, flour and sugar bags and some others were printed with fabric designs rather than burlap. They could be used for many hand sown items around the house as well as clothing for the family. They were popular for many years until the five and ten stores made less course material inexpensive enough that the feed bags went out of style. However there are quite a few places where one can buy them even today. They are, of course, much more expensive than originally.
Sept. 26th the Southport fire hall will be hosting a drug disposal day for any one who has prescriptions they need to get rid of.
The meeting closed with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Blessing on the meal by Pastor Micky Cavanaugh from the Gillett Baptist Church. The menu was chicken and biscuit, cooked carrots and fresh tomato salad.
