Jesus asked his apostles to hand over the little that they had, and He worked wonders with it. Could He perhaps be asking us to do the same?
Which loaves and fish is God asking us to entrust to His care today, right now? What do we have so little of that we are afraid to give to God?
Maybe it's time. Maybe God has been whispering to you for a while, asking you to spend more time with Him each day in prayer, in reading a good spiritual book, in reflecting on the Bible, in serving the parish, in building up your family. But you are so busy; you have so little time. Give time, anyway. God will work wonders with all that you give Him.
Maybe it's talent. Maybe God has put a desire in your heart to do something for Him or for your neighbors, to start something new, to reach out to those in need, but you have been afraid of trying because you are afraid of
failing. Perhaps you think you are not at all talented. God will multiply your talent if you put it sincerely and obediently into His hands.
Maybe it's talk. Maybe there is someone in your life that you need to speak a word of forgiveness to, or apologize to, or invite back to Mass, or encourage to walk away from some destructive, sinful habit. But how will you know the right thing to say? God will turn your poor words into seeds of grace, if only you place them in His hands.
As Jesus performs the miracle of the Eucharist in our Masses this weekend, let us all renew our confidence in Him, and hand over whatever loaves and fish He is asking for.
I'll guarantee one thing if you do: you won't regret it.
Gratefully, Father Mike
