After all, Abortion supporters tend to describe an aborted baby not as a fetus but as "contents of the uterus" or "product of conception" of "mass of tissue" - anything, it seems to dehumanize the baby and make it appear to be disposable - more like a fingernail to be trimmed than a distinct life. Yet, is it not ironic that kidneys, hearts and livers can be mined from that "mass of tissue." They won’t call the fetus a little human being; yet somehow harvestable organs grow within that glob of matter.
It is widely believed that several more undercover videos exist, and each is likely to become a bit more extreme.
The initial reaction of Planned Parenthood was to deny that the organization makes money from the sale of fetal organs; it then claimed the videos were “selectively edited.” It since has lashed out at the creators of the video for secretly filming them under false pretenses. Supporters of abortion are critical of the taping - they have expressed no revulsion at the practices it has revealed.
Logically, it is possible to be pro-choice but object to the harvesting of and sale of organs and tissue from aborted babies. However, most supporters of abortion have made no objection. Again - they all are much more exercised by the secret taping than by the reported sale of fetal organs.
Federal law - the Hyde Amendment - bars the use of federal funds to support abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother. Obamacare would not have passed without the Stupak Amendment, which barred federal funds from being used for abortion services; yet, hundreds of millions of dollars each year of taxpayer money goes to Planned Parenthood. It is one thing if its business is funded by its "clients" or by donors. It is entirely different if it is funded by the taxpayers. A rough comparison might be, oh, let's say a Nativity scene on public property as opposed to one on private property. But the real issue before us at this time is not abortion itself – it is the selling of parts from the aborted babies – well, that’s what we call it. The Associated Press refers to it as “disposition of parts from aborted fetuses.” Again, this is an effort to desensitize, to lessen the severity of the process in order to make the practice acceptable. It is illegal to sell body parts in this manner – but it is legal to “donate” the parts to someone who then pays costs of harvesting them, collecting them, transporting them – essentially someone can pay for each distinct step in the process but not “pay for the part” itself. The videos of the officials have put supporters on the defensive; those pictures have a greater impact that the proverbial "thousand words."
We doubt if any of the seven Supreme Court Justices who were in the majority of the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 would have countenanced the marketing of body parts from aborted fetuses. It is likely, however, that today’s Court could forge a majority in support of the practice. The acceptance of abortion has led a downward spiral of what is legally, and morally, acceptable.
