I did my cooking before I started gathering news for this column and my dirty pots and pans were still waiting for me when I returned. Oh my!
Barb Roupp gave me a Cortland apple about the size of a small pumpkin and Charlotte Tillotson gave me a tomato from Brad and Faye Pepper's garden, so I made out royally as I was making the rounds here.
Sunday afternoon, Dann and Wendy Lepper brought me a 1/2 bushel of grapes from Haven's Farm. So thanks everyone! No wonder this is my favorite season of the year.
Quite a few residents enjoyed the Coffee Chat Hour Thursday.
Jeannette May's daughter, Becky and Dr. Scott and their son Clint left on Sunday to return to their home in Florida. It was so good to see them. I think they enjoyed the beautiful fall colors and the nice weather while they were here.
Jeannette May and I joined others for the LeRoy Museum walking tour at the LeRoy Cemetery, Saturday afternoon. It was very interesting, but we left early. We were so cold. Matt Carl does a fantastic job bringing history alive.
Arlene Quail reported that she, along with Marie O'Hara and Suzie Fisher attended the District VFW meeting held in Catawissa, PA, Sunday afternoon.
When I stopped to check with Helen Reed, she said she had taken a tumble and had some black and blue marks. She didn't break anything, thank goodness and had made a dish to pass for the supper, tonight.
Irma Earley mentioned that her daughter, Debbie Elliot took her for an appointment, Tuesday and afterward they had breakfast at Kelley's Creek Side Restaurant. Later that day Irma's daughter Maxine Shedden drove her to Mansfield, PA for an eye appointment.
After church services on Sunday, Irma enjoyed lunch at the Iron Skillet, Sylvania with Maxine and Dave Shedden. She reported seeing snow showers on their return to Canton.
Carol Cole was in Tunkhannock visiting her daughter Julie Price and her family for a few days last week. She said it was a great visit; she was able to see her grandchildren and great grand-baby. Carol commented "It's still so good to be home."
Kathy Temple and her sister Bonnie Vanemon displayed their wood crafts at the Troy Craft Show, Saturday. Sunday, they attended church. Afterward visited their mother in Williamsport.
Carol Brown reported that her sister Deb came to visit her, Friday. They had a really nice time. They had lunch at Flavorland to celebrate their October birthdays, which they have in common. They had time to catch up on each other's coming and group since their trip to Georgia in August, she said
Barb Roupp is home from her trip to visit family in Montoursville. Barb also said it's so good to be home, although she had a really great time with ten members of her family. Her sister from Arkansas was visiting and all her siblings were able to be together for some gadding around, some shopping and good meals. She even met a relative she didn't know that she had. How great is that?
Charlotte Tillotson reported that she went with her daughter Faye Pepper to a birthday party for her little great grandson, Nolan Snediker in Muncy. Nolan just turned four and had a "Superman Birthday." Nolan is the grandson of Jim and Sue Tillotson.
I saw Frances Kobbe as she was leaving for an appointment in Williamsport this morning. Frances said she had attended a birthday party, Sunday for her ittle great granddaughter, Ellie at the home of Ellie's mother, Corrine Lewis.
Lavonne McNett attended the dedication of the organ honoring Gloria Marple at the Austinville Union Church, Sunday. Lavonne was very impressed with the beautiful church and the inspirational scripture readings and music.
It was another successful pot luck evening here on "The Ridge." A number of residents weren't able to attend due to health issues, but seventeen hearty souls were there to enjoy the bountiful feast.
After all were gathered, three residents were acknowledge who are celebrating October birthdays, Irma Earley, Carol Brown, and Shirley Hoffman all were celebrating. They sang Happy Birthday to them all.
Arlene Quail reported on the community finances before LaVonne gave the invocation before the meal.
Mary Turner said she enjoyed the football game, Friday evening and she was very happy with the score.
Eric Smith reported that he and Beverly had attended "The Fall Kick Off" at the Grover Church of Christ, October 11. He said that Art Bush from Chesapeake, OH was the guest speaker and began the kick off with song and a message.
Eric said the 5th Sunday is always the hymn sing and the Grover Church was the host this time. They had a concert as part of the kick off.
