Someone reported that there were nine residents at the Coffee Chat Hour on Thursday. Jeannette May and I stopped in late as we were heading out with other VIA members for a luncheon and business meeting at the Landing Strip Restaurant in Liberty, PA. After the meeting we checked out and shopped at Martin's Amish Store across the street from the restaurant.
I stopped to chat with third floor neighbors, Tilly Terry, Pauline Watts, and Arlene Quail earlier. Nothing for the column but it's always good to touch base with everyone.
From second floor, Irma Earley's daughter, Debbie Elliot took her for a ride to County Bridge last Friday and later enjoyed having lunch at Irma's daughter Maxine and Dave Shedden. They were able to visit with Jim, Linda, and Sean Shedden who were visiting from Jakarta, Indonesia.On the 4th, Irma had a "picnic" with Maxine and Dave and due to the rain they ate at Irma's apartment.
Kathy Temple wrote that she and her sister Bonnie Vanemon traveled to Williamsport on Friday to visit their mother who lives in a nursing home there. While in Williamsport, they did some grocery shopping in preparation of the holiday weekend. Friday evening they attended the services for the opening of the Veterans Memorial in Towanda. Boy Scout Troop #33 from Canton and Troop #6 from Towanda participated in the service. The young men of these two troops did an excellent job with their part of the service, Kathy said. Saturday, Kathy and Bonnie prepared a picnic dinner for Bonnie's family and assisted Kathy's nephew Mike working on his cabin. Sunday, after church service, they worked some more on Mike's cabin.
Mary Ann and Steve Sudan from Tennessee stopped in to see Jessie Herman this last week. Jessie said they are her cousins and they enjoyed talking and talking some more about their shared genealogy.
Jessie's son, Jim Herman also called on her this week and on Saturday her grandson, David Herman and his mother Kathy Denise stopped in for a visit.
Julie Parker was visiting Jessie on Monday. We were able to see a picture of her new little grandbaby girl.
Frances Kobbe enjoyed a nice picnic with her family on Saturday. The picnic was at the home of her granddaughter Lisa and Bobby Mulcahy in Monroeton.
My sister Jeannette May and I decided to stay in on the 4th because of the soggy wet weather. Jeannette made dinner however, serving her delicious salmon balls. We enjoyed the quiet dry day. Sunday we took advantage of the sunshine and after Mass we bought subs and enjoyed a picnic and the sun at Matthew's Campgrounds. We also checked out the cemetery where we found the plants were still really nice because of all the rain.
I just finished writing the column and was going to check the newsbox when a knock on my door found some more wonderful green lettuce and another squash, love it. Thanks Brad and Faye Pepper and Charlotte for sharing. My tummy is doing the "happy dance."
Walking With The Lord
I'm here to share your sorrow;
I understand your pain,
I'll help you bear your burdens;
And find you joy again.
Keep looking up, my children;
Remember the promises I made;
Don't hang your head in misery;
And please don't be afraid.
Choose to be a witness;
Walk with Jesus at your side;
Open your heart to God's word,
And let His spirit be your guide.
I'm coming soon to claim you
Everyone I call My own
Will leave this world of sorrow
And finally go home.
