It looks rather dreary outside my window here on "The Ridge". I think it must be mild however, as I have a window wide open and looks like most of the snow is gone. Guess we can handle that, although I do enjoy the snow. Our Christmas pot luck supper is this afternoon so everyone, who is able, is busy cooking and baking for the feast and social time.
Other than that there wasn't much happening on the third floor.
I did see former neighbors, Fred and Louise Mundrick as I was checking the news box earlier. They had been visiting Louise's sister, Sally Johnson who resides on this floor. It was good to see them and know that they are doing well.
Maxine Shedden and Debbie Elliot took their mother Irma Earley to the cemeteries on Tuesday to place wreaths on their loved ones' graves.
Irma reported that she had a full day on Sunday. After attending the Christmas program at Ward Church, she had lunch with Maxine and Dave Shedden at McDonald's in Troy. They all attended an open house for Marie Taylor who was celebrating her 90th birthday and afterwards attended a graduation party for Susan Shedden.
Carol Brown reported that seven residents attended and enjoyed the game of dirty bingo in the community room on Friday. The Bradford County Recreation Director offers the game here frequently.
There were also seven residents at the Thursday Coffee Hour here this last week.
Carol Cole had some thoughts of winter. She wrote
"Gently floating to the ground;
A blanket of white all around;
Bright stars twinkle in dark night sky.
And the wind in the evergreen whispers a lullaby;
For Christmas 2014."
I was selling VIA Christmas raffle tickets at the Chemung Bank again on Friday. The ladies who work there are so gracious, helping us with everything we need. Members of the VIA appreciate them very much.
My granddaughter, Amy De- Cristo, joined me at the end of my shift and then we went for lunch at Kelley's Creekside Restaurant. I had been trying since her birthday in August to treat her for lunch and this was the first opportunity. She is a busy mom. She spent the afternoon with me before picking her boys, Matthew and Andrew up at school.
Saturday evening, Frances Kobbe went to the Bradford County Manor with her church Calvary Alliance Chapel congregation to entertain the residents there with a Christmas program. Their pastor Glen Bayly and his wife Jen gave Christmas message, they sang Christmas carols with the residents and then Christmas cards and candy were passed out to the folks there. Frances commented that they hope that all there have a very blessed and Merry Christmas.
Eric Smith told me after the pot luck supper this afternoon, that he had attended the Christmas Celebration Conglomeration at the Church of Christ last week. Eric commented that he liked that it began with the memorial tribute to The Rev. David B. Morris.
Eric and Beverly also attended A" Cricket County Blizzard" dinner theatre at the Grover Church of Christ this week. Eric said both performances were excellent.
There was a good turnout for the pot luck this afternoon. Twenty four folks enjoyed the meal including guest, Rosetta Vance and Carol Brown's granddaughters, Cheyenne and Haylee Fromille and Cheyenne's friend, Gavin. Roxie Holmes welcomed everyone and introduced the guests before a short report on the status of the community finances. The December birthdays include Mary Campbell, Roxie Holmes, Anna Bell Vanderpool, and Jane McMurray. They were recognized with the birthday song. LaVonne McNett then had the invocation before the meal.
