I know everyone has watched Mayberry RFD with Andy Griffith. Well, the story I'm about to tell might have been one of his episodes, but it really happened.
I went to E. Smithfield Country Market and I was shopping and I met Bea Parmenter. We talked and she told me that her son Joseph and Elfrida celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 7. Joe and Elfrida have three sons so all came home to Bea's house for a party/picnic.
Bea's not sure how her son and his wife celebrated 50 years of marriage when Bea herself is only 59.
She is like my mother-in-law, Bonnie, who is 59, but her oldest son is 55. Well, any way back to the subject.
Then Jean Stribridge came in and she told me that Butch and Donna Dunbar just got back from a vacation in Washington State. They had a good time.
Well, this lady turns around, came over, looked at Bea and said "yes, you know me." Well back in 1942 Ester Ford Finnerty went to school with Bea, and Bea dated her brother Albert when Bea was 16. They have not seen each other since 1943, so they talked a while. Then Jean Strobridge came out and Jean sat down with us and I learned that Duane Stevens is in the hospital . He had surgery on his stomach.
Since the three of us were all sitting there, we asked Randy if we could have a hot dog roast in his parking lot. He said, "Ok", but not during business hours.
Well, some more people came that Bea and Jean knew, so they talked a while and an hour later, sitting on the Smithfield Store's front porch, we left, after sitting on rocking chairs, talking, just like the good old days.
Then I saw Bob Greenough Sr., and Debbie Greenough sitting on their front porch. I drove up by the porch and talked to them for a while, then went home.
