I’m happy to say that the annual “tent sale” last Thursday thru Saturday at Armenia Mt. Footwear in Troy where I work was a success. The weather cooperated nicely which added to the turnout, I’m sure. I enjoyed watching the kids pick out new sneakers for school, which, believe it or not, starts back up in a little over 2 weeks. Where did our summer go?
We’re enjoying a little R&R at Ives Run campground with several friends. Church was held out in the beautiful sunshine under bright blue skies, and blessed with an occasional breeze. Following the service we all enjoyed a wonderful dish to pass picnic with the usual burgers and hot dogs. It was very nice indeed.
Sympathies are extended to the many friends and family of Rod Spaulding of Troy who passed away this past week.
On behalf of Minnequa Grange I want to thank everyone for their congratulations and compliments to us on our grange booth exhibit displayed at the Troy Fair where we won 1st place. Their comments included their surprise at all the interesting things they learned that were made from corn.
On August 14, 1935, Congress approved the Social Security Act. On August 15, 1969, the Woodstock (New York) Music and Art Fair opened. On August 17, 1790, the capital of the United States was moved from New York City to Philadelphia. The 17th also marks the day when “Cat nights” begin. According to Lore & Legend, “Cat Nights” originate in an Irish legend about a witch that could turn herself into a cat and back again eight nights in a row, but on the ninth night – August 17 – she had to remain a cat. This may be the origin of the idea that a cat has nine lives. It also helps explain why cats are particularly “yowly” in August. On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, giving women the right to vote, was ratified by the states. On August 19, 1856, Gail Borden patented his process for condensing milk. During the Civil War, condensed milk became a staple for soldiers.
August 20th marks the birthday of my husband Ron – he’ll be officially a year older than me for 5 weeks.
Quote by Sir Francis Bacon: “Whoever is out of patience is out of possession of his soul. Men must not turn into bees, and kill themselves in stinging others.”
And, with all the recent hub-bub regarding the upcoming 2016 Presidential election, here is some food for thought: The happiness of every country depends upon the character of its people, rather than the form of its government. (Amen)
