This past weekend it was so beastly hot and humid with temperatures reaching into the 90’s, that it was hard to believe that just last Thursday at 6 am it was a cool and crisp 44 degrees! The rainy days have held off a bit, and that’s nice, too.
I had noticed just a couple of flowers in bloom on our Rose of Sharon bush out front and was worried that last winter’s blast as well as so much rain lately was going to diminish the lush beauty it’s had in the past. However, a visiting neighbor on Sunday took a look and said on the contrary – it was full of small buds – maybe just a little behind schedule was all. I was also glad to be able to cut a couple of blossoms from my pink hydrangea that I purchased from a garden club fundraiser, which was a hybrid grown to honor breast cancer research – thus the bright pink color. I like to think of it to be in honor and memory of all my loved ones that have ever been afflicted with this dreadful disease.
Sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Marsden Matson who passed away. Marsey – as he was called –graduated with my brother Art in Troy High School’s class of 1957, and was married to my cousin Donna (Mott).
Sympathies as well are extended to the family and friends of Mike Chopak who also passed away this past week. Mike had the general store here in Alba for many years and served as the postmaster. His son Michael still lives here in Alba.
Ron has been helping me getting ready to set the grange booth up this week for exhibit at the Troy Fair, which opens next Monday the 27th and runs through until Saturday August 1st. That means we will soon be hearing the roar of demolition derby cars being readied for that famous event that will be taking place on Friday and Saturday evenings. I read in the newspaper where the music show scheduled for this year has had a great response in selling reserved seats.
Last Sunday’s special music at church was brought to us by Martha Kress, another returning favorite, who also blessed us by continuing her singing, guitar playing, testimonies, and cute little poems and stories serving as the worship service’s message. Despite the heat in the sanctuary it was very obvious that everyone thoroughly enjoyed Martha as we always do and look forward to her returning to us again. Martha grew up in Canton and was tickled to see several of her childhood friends on hand to enjoy her talents with us.
