I’m so pleased to be able to tell you that Ron had a great report at the doctors’ last week at his 6-month check-up having had prostate cancer. He got an A+ and doesn’t have to go back for a year! Thank God for another Blessing.
We’ve heard lots of reports from folks seeing deer out and about and how beautiful they are right now – a bright reddish brown color. As a matter of fact, I saw a big beautiful buck in the field across from Tennessee Gas Pond, which is a place where we see deer quite often. And, on another not so good note, I’ve heard of lots of sightings of snakes basking in the sun. There are very few things in this world I can say I detest, but snakes are one of them. And I saw two of them this week in the back yard! Ron tries not to laugh at me when I shriek and tell him to get rid of them, but, really… I remember back several decades ago, growing up in Cowley, when summers would get so beastly hot and dry, my mother (Lucille) would set out a shallow plastic lid – from a cottage cheese container or such, so snakes could get a drink. Honest! She insisted on it as she said snakes eat bugs – as do toads – so, we better not harm them. Better yet, put them in the garden! Yeah, right…
Rural Brotherhood is this coming Thursday June 18, hosted by Ogdensburg Church of Christ beginning at 7 pm. All are welcome.
The special music in church last Sunday was given by Ted Bown and his wife Janet on loan to us from the Canton Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ. She played the piano, and of course, Ted played his trumpet. What a treat! It was just wonderful, indeed, and very much enjoyed by everyone. As it was Flag Day, they chose to play a tribute to the branches of our Armed Forces, asking those who served to stand and be recognized. It was grand as we all listened with a lump in our throats and a tear in our eye.
Plans are underway for the annual LeRoy Old Home Day held on July 4th. The Heritage Museum will be open for visitors and the admission is simply a generous donation. Museum volunteers will be outside selling Ann Carl’s famous funnel cakes, plus they’ll also be selling ice cream sundaes and there are lots of great things for sale in the museum gift shop. Thank you for your continued support.
Happy birthday to Garfield on June 19th (1978). This Sunday – the 21st – is Father’s Day, and also the first day of Summer – the longest daylight hours day of the year. On June 21st, 1834, Cyrus McCormick received a patent for his reaping machine. On June 22, 1870, Congress created the Department of Justice. Also on the 22nd – in 1970 – the legal voting age in the United States was lowered to 18. On June 23, 1868, a mechanical writing machine – the typewriter – was patented by Christopher Nathan Sholes. And, a day that will live in infamy, June 25, 1962 is when prayer in public schools was ruled unconstitutional. Dare I say a very dark day that we suffer for and pay the consequences for to this very day and will continue to until people wake up and take back their country and their Constitutional rights.
