I try and talk to my brother Art every day as he continues to obtain information regarding going forward with the treatment of his cancer. His most recent appointment revealed a fractured vertebrae in his neck area where they immediately put on a “C” collar to be worn 24/7 until further notice. In addition he is scheduled for a “PET” scan this week, another MRI, and the goes on. I’m impressed how he continues to be very upbeat and says he “feels good” and doesn’t want all the fuss and with me (and his family) being so upset about all of this. “It is what it is”, he says. Please pray for his doctor’s wisdom. Some recent temperatures there have been in the low 80’s when we struggled to get out of the 30’s. But this past weekend it was a cold 40 degrees in Albany, Georgia.
We received our box of oranges, pears and apples from Tricia Hojnowski that we purchased through the FFA fundraising drive. It’s a great box of fruit and I hope they all did well – in both Troy and Canton – to support this much-needed organization for our area youth.
Last Saturday was a cold, drizzly, dreary day; however we, four of our Alba CWF ladies, still enjoyed our day selling crafts at the Victorian Christmas held at the Manley-Bohlayer farm in East Canton. It rained all day and the temperature hovered around the freezing mark, so as you would expect, foot traffic was down quite a bit from the year before but we still did a pretty good job in sales and it was fun visiting with all the folks out for a day of festive shopping.
This next Saturday, the 13th, from 1 to 4 PM, the LeRoy Heritage Museum will host an open house for guests to come and tour the exhibits, and there will be lots of items for purchase in the newly expanded gift shop, including some homemade sweet treats just in time for the holidays, including such things as fudge, candy, and cookies. And, thank you for your continued support. I haven’t heard very many reports of successful deer hunters throughout our area - just a handful. Where are they? They must be moving at night and hunkering down during the day. But there have been quite a number of bear sightings, as well as coyotes.
By the time you read this, most of us will have been digging out from a “Nor-East-er” storm that was due to hit northeastern PA Tuesday into Wednesday. I’ve heard predictions of anywhere from 6 inches to 24! I’m so grateful to my husband for the large pile of firewood sitting by the back door ready to be burned to keep us warm, as well as enough gas in the tractor to keep us and some neighbors and friends plowed out.
On December 12, 1787, Pennsylvania became the second state. December 15th is “National Firefighters’ Day”. Also on this day, in 1791, ten of the original 12 amendments to the U.S. Constitution were ratified – thus naming this day “Bill of Rights Day”. On December 16, 1773, Colonials dressed as Native Americans protested British taxes in what came to be known as the Boston Tea Party. December 16th is “National Chocolate-covered Anything Day”. (Now THERE’S a day worth celebrating!) December 17th is “National Maple Syrup Day”. On December 18, 1787, New Jersey became the third state.
Quote by Albert Einstein: “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle”.
Riddle: What do you have in December that you don’t have in any other month? Answer: The letter “D”.
