This was a relatively close election, and it revealed big splits in the electorate, with Mrs. Clinton winning 2.8 million more popular votes than Mr. Trump, She topped Mr. Trump by more than 3.3 million in California alone. What is really curious, and must be frustrating to the Clinton campaign, is that, according to an article in Politico, the Democratic National Committee was so worried that Mrs. Clinton would win the electoral vote but lose the popular vote (hard to believe, but there is ample evidence that acting Chair of the DNC Donna Brazile did believe it) that they diverted resources from Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin (all of which were carried by Donald Trump) to spend in Chicago, New Orleans and other strongly Democrat cities. The DNC also misread the electorate, and refused to divert resources from Iowa (which she lost by more then ten points) to Michigan (which she lost by fewer than 11,000 votes.) There are other comparable actions that were made by the DNC despite the pleas from local operatives in those key states. The Democrat establishment didn’t understand what was happening on election day, and they still don’t, and that is why they will not accept the election results.
BY JOHN SHAFFER We’ll have to admit that until one of Hillary Clinton’s “faithless electors” in Washington cast his vote for her, we didn’t know who Faith Spotted Eagle was. Turns out she is a member of the Yankton Sioux nation and opponent of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines. It is delicious that this woman received more electoral votes for president than did Jill Stein, who made a name for herself through pointless and counter-productive recounts. “Faithless elector” is used to describe members of the electoral college who cast their votes for someone other than the candidate who carried the state he or she represents. Faith Spotted Eagle wasn’t the only beneficiary of “faithless electors” this year. Donald Trump lost two votes, both from Texas. One was cast for former Congressman and Libertarian Presidential Candidate Ron Paul and the other for Ohio Governor John Kasich. Mrs. Clinton set a record of sorts, losing a total of five votes to “faithless electors.” In addition to the vote for Faith Spotted Eagle, three of Mrs. Clinton’s electors in Washington voted for Republican Colin Powell; one in Hawaii voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders. Interestingly, former President Bill Clinton was an elector from New York State, and he voted for his wife. A wag pointed out that this may have been the first time Bill Clinton was “faithful” to her. The Democrats have fired a quiverful of arrows at the Trump presidency-to-be, and have blamed just about everyone except the candidate who did not win. Their support for the recounts was bad enough, but the campaign to intimidate and threaten electors was, we suspect, unprecedented (or as Donald Trump would have it, “unpresidented”), We had a celebrity publicly suborn electors to violate their duty by offering to pay the $1,000 fines that some would risk if they voted for someone other than the candidate who won their state. And that was one of the milder tactics used to compel electors to switch. Two Republican electors did not vote for Mr. Trump, but the fact that five Democrat electors voted for someone other than Mrs. Clinton may be the final insult she suffers this election season.
