But wait – it gets better, because Mr. Brennan also said that President Trump did not attempt to enlist the help of any official in the intelligence community to kill the investigation of Michael Flynn, his first National Security Advisor. Well, that shoots down another of the charges that the Democrats have been propelling for the last few months.
According to Mr. Brennan’s testimony, US intelligence first picked up on Russia’s active meddling last summer. But Mr. Brennan seems to have forgotten who the President was in 2016 – it was Barack Obama. Mr. Brennan professes to be unsure of the extent of Russian influence, but whatever it was, the Obama administration took no meaningful or effective action to stop it. They issued a warning – but the Russians ignored it. There is only one explanation for their failure to take action – they assumed Mrs. Clinton would win and did not want to “poison the well.” or "upset the applecart." Of course, once she lost, they had absolutely no compunctions or hesitation about poisoning or upsetting things for the incoming Trump administration, evidence (or lack of it) be darned. The conclusion is obvious: if Mrs. Clinton had won, we would have heard nothing about any of this.
President Obama finally did retaliate by expelling over thirty Russian citizens – on December 29! Nearly two months after the election and at least four months after they “discovered” the “meddling.” This does not make much sense, other than a naked attempt to destabilize the Trump administration and to cause mischief – not in order to make sure the Russians are blocked from future action – but to damage the Trump administration politically. It is noteworthy that the same people who are in a lather over alleged contacts between the Russians and the Trump campaign have absolutely no problem with Russian contacts with anybody else. There will be an exhaustive investigation of a fabricated concoction of rumored “attempts to influence” in favor of the Trump campaign – but no investigation of the actual corrupt dealings the Russians had with the Clinton Foundation or Hillary Clinton’s State Department. We actually have very little objection to former FBI Director Robert Mueller being appointed to look into possible “Russian Meddling” – but we strenuously object to limiting his probe to the Trump campaign. After all, Libertarian Gary Johnson, Green Jill Stein and Democrat Hillary Clinton also were running for president, and how can a proper investigation not include those campaigns as well?
