Robert R. Bruce,  94, The Mayor of Weigester Street, Troy, PA passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017, after a brief illness, at the Towanda Guthrie Memorial. Bob was born September 28, 1922 in Troy son of the late Roy L. and Nina Belle (Smith) Bruce. He was a graduate of Troy High School and following graduation enlisted with the US Army serving his country in WW II in France. He and the late Mary E. Sweet were married on March 21, 1942 and celebrated 71 years of marriage prior to her passing on May 21, 2013.
Prior to his employment with the U S Postal Service, he was employed as a machinist at Troy Machine and was a Meter Reader for the Borough of Troy.  As the Mailman in Troy, Bob enjoyed all those that he delivered mail to and was especially fond of the many families he came in contact with over the years.  He always was picking on the boys and girls along his mail route, calling the boys Suzie Popsaqualie and the girls Charlie.  Bob had his own vocabulary and when asked how he was, his response was always, Copathetic!

He was a lifelong member of the Troy Fire Department and Ambulance Service, member of the Troy VFW, and the American Legion.  He enjoyed bowling at Terrace Lanes and was inducted to the Bowling Hall of Fame.  He enjoyed morning coffee with his friends at Terrace Lanes and planting vegetables in his garden.  He was also an avid bird watcher and was diligent about feeding and caring for them.  Bob had a zest for life that was contagious to those that he came in contact with and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.  Anyone that met him were quick to adore him and his sense of humor.  We are hopeful that upon his arrival in Heaven to meet his Wife and Son, when asked how he’s been, his response would be, “I’m Copathetic.”
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald G. and Sandra Bruce of Lancaster, seven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, a brother Harry Bruce of Gillett, several nieces, nephews and friends.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, wife Mary E. (Sweet) Bruce, his son, Robert Bruce, Jr., three brothers, George Bruce, Donald Bruce, Harold Bruce and his sister Louise Bruce.
Calling hours were held Monday, March 13, 2017 from 4 to 6 PM at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy. with funeral and committal held at the conclusion of calling hours with Mr. Chris Landis officiating.      Military Honors were accorded following the service by the Troy Veteran's Honor Squad.
Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park.  Memorials in Bob’s memory may be made to the Troy Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 152, Troy, PA 16947.   Send online condolences to Vickeryfhinc.com
