Dennis S. Perry, 73, Canton,  passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Guthrie’s Troy Community Hospital.
Born October 8, 1943, in Elmira, NY, Dennis Stuart Perry, “Denny” to family and friends, was a son of the late Ernest “Shorty” and Helen (Packard) Perry. He was a 1961 graduate of Canton High School. Denny served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea for one year and later served with the active Army Reserves until 1995. On July 9, 1966, he married the former Barbara Watkins in the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ).
Denny was employed as head of security for Ward Manufacturing in Blossburg until retiring in 2014. A great fan of all Canton sports, he also was his children’s biggest supporter for their interests in school activities and sports. He also took great pride in spending time with his beloved grandchildren. Denny was a PIAA Football official and would often be asked to umpire baseball games. He assisted with Little League and the Teener Baseball Programs, coached Pop Warner Football and was Canton’s Varsity Basketball Coach for several years. He followed the NY Giants, NY Knicks and LA Dodger teams. Denny also was interested in history and was quite a history buff, he especially enjoyed anything military. He was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge No. 429.

Surviving are: his wife of 50 years, Barbara; sons; Devin (Andrea) Perry, Thomasville, NC and Damon “Boo” (Laurie) Perry, Canton; four grandchildren; Logan Perry, Justin Perry, Kayla Parker and Addison Perry; two sisters-in-law, Barb Perry, Canton and Cheri Case, Troy and a brother-in-law, Don Chilson, Leroy, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by  brother Joseph Perry, stepmother, Gerry Perry and  sister-in-law, Linda Chilson.
Calling hours are 10 – 11:30 A.M. Friday, June 30, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton. Rev. Glen Landis will officiate the memorial and committal services to celebrate Denny’s life at 11:30 with military honors accorded. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
