Catherine (Kay) B. Corea, of Binghamton, New York and formerly of Canton, passed away with her family at her side at Mercy House of the Southern Tier on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.          Kay graduated from Canton High School and Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA.  She was a classroom teacher for the Binghamton City School District for 33 years, teaching first grade and then third grade.
She was an avid reader and life-long learner, a trait that she passed down to her family as well as many students.  She enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, hosting family meals, competing in trivia and card games as well as savoring a glass of her family’s homemade wine.  Most of all Kay enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and reliving great memories through her story telling.    She held fond memories of family beach, lake and camping vacations.  Kay stayed active with the help of her golf friends, osteo girls exercise class, knitting club and book club and many of those friends continued to spend time with Kay visiting her at Mercy House.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mary & Wilson Brann of Canton, her in-laws, John & Angelina Corea, Binghamton, NY and her brother, Thomas Brann of Wesley Chapel, Florida.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Andrew Corea and their five children:  Kathleen & Tom Carney, Endwell, NY; Margaret & Gary Skowronski, Colorado Springs, CO; Christine Moriarty, Binghamton, NY; Andrew &Maria (Marley) Corea, Endicott, NY and Sharon and Scott Wahl, Vestal, NY.  She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren:  Tara and Jay Niedzialkowski, Ryan, Sean & Thomas Carney, Jr., Melissa, Emily, Justin & John Skowronski, Michael & Abby Moriarty and Kaitlin, Joseph & Dylan Wahl and one great grandchild, Elena Catherine Niedzialkowski.
The family would like to express a special thank you to all the staff and volunteers at Mercy House who cared with love and support for Kay in her last days.
The family  received friends on Tuesday, June 13. at the J.A. McCormack & Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, NY.  A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 9 Leroy Street, Binghamton, NY, at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 14.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mercy House of the Southern Tier.
