Cindy Evans

   Cindy was born in June of 1950 to her parents Clara (Wood) and Marshall Hoffa. She grew up in a world full of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was especially fond of her grandparents Ruby and Harry Hoffa. Cindy was a spirited classmate of Canton schools, having celebrated their 50dl reunion last year.
   Cindy's two daughters are Jen (Feiock) Syed and Eary (Feiock) Coombs. Along with their daughters Miriam Syed and Grace Coombs, they were the light of her life and always in her heart. Not far behind were the cats she fussed over all through her life, surviving are Clara, Donny, and Betty.
   Cindy was a banker at the First National Bank of Canton for 43 years. People sought her help and advice at the bank as well as at home or on the street. She also cleaned homes and helped the elderly even as a child and throughout her life to the very end.
​   Cindy lived passionately and with much spirit. Her interests were many and varied. She loved the out of doors and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and yard work. Winter cellars were full of her many canned goods. She loved to pick berries of all kinds, a love that began with her grandmother Ruby. Beau Willet Ellsworth

  Angel Beau Willet Ellsworth, newborn, passed away on Friday, Apr. 19, 2019 from the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.
​   “Our little angel has left us, We could not make him stay, Although we loved him dearly, Our Lord carried him away.”
  Baby Beau is survived by his loving family; Parents, Cain Ellsworth and Breanna Cole, siblings, Kayden, Mishayla and Delilah Ellsworth all of Canton, Maternal Grandparents, Hollie and Ralph Wilson of Canton, Paternal Grandparents, Kimberly Colston of Alba and William Ellsworth of Columbia Cross Rds., Maternal Great-Grandparents, Sharon (Donald) Shedden of Canton, Alan (Robin) Schrader of Dutton, Va., Paternal Great-Grandparent, Rosanna Tarbox of Canton, Paternal Aunts and Uncles, Andrea (Jason) Husted, Brittany (Ray) Barns, Maternal Aunts and Uncles, Christopher (Megan) Schrader and Matthew (Kayla) Cole.

LaRue "Rue" Evans

  LaRue “Rue” Evans, of Canton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Saturday, Apr. 13, 2019.
  LaRue Raymond was born Sept. 3, 1963 to the late Paul Evans Sr. and Carol Wilson Evans in Blossburg, Pennsylvania. Upon graduating from Canton High School in 1981 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp where he served as a heavy equipment operator. LaRue was a solids control operator and heavy machine operator in the oil field business until his health no longer permitted him to continue. On June 19, 2015 he married Donna Marie Drake in Ogdensburg, Pennsylvania. Rue was a very loving and devoted husband. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. LaRue also liked Nascar’s Mark Martin and the Florida Gators College Teams.

Phillip F. Eiffert

   Phillip F. Eiffert, 86 of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018 at Elmcroft of Mid-Valley in Peckville, Pa. He was the loving husband of the late Barbara (Smiley) Eiffert, who passed away Apr. 17, 2015.  The couple married Oct. 23, 1960 and had 54 happy years together.
  Phil was born on Aug. 19, 1932 in Troy, Pa., son of the late Lynn and Mary (Williams) Eiffert. He was a 1950 graduate of Troy High School.  After graduation, he worked as an inspector for American LaFrance for 20 years, and after became a local real estate agent and school bus driver.  Phil was a member of the Big Pond United Methodist Church, a charter and over 50 year member of the Big Pond Lion’s Club, where he held several leadership rolls, was a member of the Ondawa Grange, and the Monday Night Bowling League at Terrace Lanes.

John Huntington Ellis

 John Huntington Ellis, Canton and Williamsport, passed away on June 15, his 86th birthday.         John’s wife, Alberta “Jean” Toner and his older brother, Edward G. Ellis Jr., predeceased him.
    He leaves two step-children, Judy Lohman and John Ford and their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert “Doc” Ellis (Marilyn); his nieces and nephews and their families.
    He graduated from Canton High School, photography school, and (then) Williamsport Tech. He was a photographer, the sailor of a boat he built himself, chief engineer at WLYC for thirty years. 
    He loved music and played the clarinet. He was a self-taught drummer who played in local bands, including the McNett brothers. All this with acute visual problems. He was known for his humorous ways with words and friendliness. He will be missed.

Elinor "Penny" Eckels

    Elinor "Penny" Eckels, 75, Troy, PA, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Troy Community Hospital.
    She was born on January 29, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of Lee and Helen (McGregory) Eckels
  Penny was a resident of the Martha Lloyd School since 1963 and had many friends in the community.
    She was member of the Troy United Methodist Church. Penny enjoyed reading the Daily Review, going to Vinnie's Pizza Shop and shopping.
    She is survived by her cousin, Marian Wahlgren in Lexington, KY.

Thomas E. Elvidge

 Thomas E. Elvidge, 73, of East Smithfield, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 following a period of declining health.
 Tom was born March 18, 1944 in East Troy, son of the late James and Elma (Brown) Elvidge. He was a graduate of S.R.U. High School. Tom was a dedicated community member having served as the Fire Chief of the East Smithfield Fire Department as well as having served as part of the Tri-Township Ambulance Association. Tom believed ethic of working which resulted in him retiring a number of times including his retirement as a Paramedic from Guthrie as well as from Guthrie Med Supply Depot.

Irma J. Earley

 Irma J. Earley, 88, former long-time resident of Ward Township, PA passed away peacefully on June 14, 2017 at the Bradford County Manor, where she has resided since September 24, 2016.
  She will be greatly missed as a mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. 
  Born October 2, 1928, she was the ninth of 13 children born to the late Fred S. and Mabel (Mason) Machmer. 
   Irma was raised on the mountain in Ward Township, Tioga County, where she was born.  She was a 1946 graduate of Canton High School.  On June 20, 1947, she married Max M. Merritt and together they had three daughters.  In August of 1964, Irma and the girls moved back to the mountain from Victor, NY.
​   On January 27, 1969, she married Richard Earley and they lived on the mountain until his passing on Nov. 28, 1976.  She worked at Canton Manufacturing, Valvair, the Canton A & P, IGA, Holiday Market and D&H Keystone Market.  She was a nanny for Ashley Clark for four years, before retiring.  Irma left the mountain on Sept. 30, 1992 and was one of the first residents of the Cedar Ridge Apartments in Canton.  Many friends were made while living there for 24 years. She especially enjoyed times spent in the gazebo, gardening, bingo and the monthly dinners.

Shirley J. Evans

    Shirley J. Evans, 74, Gillett, passed away  February 21, 2017 at the Sayre Heath Care Center. 
    Shirley was born May 20, 1942 in Clarion, PA daughter of the late William & Katie Sayers. 
   Shirley was married to Steven Evans on October 22, 1966 upon his return from the service and enjoyed 50 years of marriage.         She was employed at Wheelers Family Restaurant for many years as a Prep Cook. Shirley attended the Bentley Creek Baptist Church and in her spare time enjoyed reading, sewing, puzzles and spending time with her family.
     Surviving are he husband Steven Evans, Gillett; son and daughter-in-law, Steven & Tina Evans, Gillett; daughter and son-in-law, Christine & George Chilson, Elmira, NY; sister, Mabel Fingado, Clarion, PA, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
      Shirley was predeceased by her parents and twelve siblings.  
​     The funeral was held on February 25, 2017 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. Wellsburg, NY with Reverend James Ellis of the Gillett Baptist Church officiating.         Interment was in the spring in Hanlon Hill Cemetery, Gillett, PA.

William C. Engelke, Jr.

     William C. Engelke, Jr.,  83, of Troy, passed away December 29, 2015 at home.
     Bill was born June 10, 1932 in Chester, Delaware County, PA son of the late William C. and Lillian Mae (Baxter) Engelke, Sr. following graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Air Force and served his country until his retirement following 37 years of service with the US Air Force and US Air Force Reserves.
 Funeral service was held, January 4, 2016 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. Troy PA, with Pastor Mark A. Steckiel officiating.
    Interment with full military honors followed in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy.
    In addition to serving his country Bill was very active on his farm. He was a crop and beef farmer on the Mud Creek Road and enjoyed his farm in the country. His memberships included the Fellowship Bible Church of Troy, Air Force Sergeants Association and liked deer hunting. Bill will be missed greatly by his family and many friends.
