Shirley Lou Rice

Shirley Lou Rice, 77, of 502 Church Street, Athens, PA passed away in her sleep Thursday, December 2, 2021 at her home. 

Shirley was born in Williamsport, PA on February 23, 1944, the daughter of Luther Raymond Mulno Sr. and Jean Millier Mulno.  She resided in her younger years at the Old Fox Chase Farm and was employed for many years at the Bradford County Manor.  Shirley enjoyed the outdoors, animals, cross stitching, crafting, playing Bingo, and spending time the most with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and with friends and family.  She was always willing to help anyone anytime!  She loved her angels and bears.

Surviving are her children, Marilyn Mulno Williams (Thomas), Becky Soulsby, and Brenda Stone, son-in-law, Dennis Manuel,  grandchildren, Stephenie Stone, Kaleigh Benjamin (Cody), Cassandra Eastabrook (John), Austen Stone, and many others, great grandchildren, Carsyn Benjamin, Sawyer Eastabrook, Sydney Eastabrook and others, siblings, Donald (Susan) Mulno, Sharon Newman, Charla Bump, sister-in-law, Susan Mulno, good friend, Debbie Force, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Rice, children, Robin Manuel, Thomas Soulsby, Charleen Soulsby, and Larry Soulsby, siblings, Luther Raymond Mulno Jr., Roger Mulno, and Elwood Miller.

​John O. Jolly

John O. Jolly, 90, beloved husband of Margaret “Peg” Jolly, formerly of the Philadelphia area, currently of Roaring Branch, Pennsylvania, passed away, Sunday, December 5, 2021, at the Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre.

Born February 7, 1931, in Philadelphia, John was one of five children in the family of the late James and Eva (Kerr) Jolly.
In earlier years, on October 4, 1958, John married the love of his life, the former Margaret Love in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Mr. Jolly enlisted and proudly served our Country with the U.S. Air Force, until his honorable discharge in 1960. He was employed as a police officer for many years until his retirement in 1985.  Together with his wife, Peg, John relocated and moved to Lycoming County and made their home in the countryside of Roaring Branch.

He is a member of St. Paul’s Episcopalian Church in Troy. John enjoyed many things throughout life and was a very talented wood worker and photographer.

He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Margaret, two children: Robert Jolly and Deborah Hirschhorn, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents’, John was predeceased by a sister, Eva Jolly, three brothers, James, Bruce, and Walter Jolly.

A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Jolly’s life will be announced and held at a later date. Burial will be private.

George E. Faulkner, 82, of Troy Township, Pennsylvania, passed away, in the early Monday morning, December 14, 2021 at his residence while surrounded by the love of his family.

Phillip P. Gasowski, 81, beloved husband of 59 years to Margaret “Peggy” Gasowski, of Granville Summit, Leroy Township, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 20, 2021, at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.

The family received friends from Noon to 1 P.M. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton, Pa 17724. A funeral Service followed at 1 P.M. with Father Michael McCormick officiating. On the morning of Monday, December 13, 2021, Rebecca Lee (Hipple) Evans of Canton passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her family. 

She was 66 years of age. Born April 8, 1955 in Sayre she was the daughter of Willard A. and Janet (Fields) Hipple. Known as Becky to family and friends she was a woman with a big heart. This was evident in her vocation as a home health care aide. Rebecca made friends with just about everyone and adopted them into her heart. One might say that she became the family Matriarch. She enjoyed reading spooky novels and watching wrestling and football on TV. , but her favorite thing was helping others.

She is survived by her husband, Errol, at home, stepdaughters Heather Evans of California, Jennifer Mills of Washington, brothers Willard A.A. Hipple (& wife Lorie) of Holt, Florida, Robert E. (&Tammy) Hipple of Canton, Lonny L. Hipple of Roaring Branch, sisters Katherine (& Richard) Avery of Florida, Michell (& Jeffrey) Bosley of Spring Grove, Pa., three grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Janet Hipple, brother Kevin T. Hipple and first husband Michael Baker.

​Jack Kendall

Jack Kendall, age 85, of Troy, PA passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

A 1954 graduate of Troy High School, Jack worked at F. P. Case and Sons until he purchased the business, and it became Kendall’s Promart. In his retirement Jack was often found on the golf course trying to outplay the family and friends he enjoyed so much.

He is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Mae Kendall, five older brothers, son-in-law Buddy Bridges, and step-daughter Robin Buchler.

Jack is survived by his wife Nelda Anderson Kendall, daughter Terry Bridges, son Jay (Mary) Kendall, step-son Brett (Carol) Buchler, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc.

​Ronald Felix (Reuben) Morgan

Ronald Felix (Reuben) Morgan passed away Friday December 10, 2021 at home with his wife by his side. 

Ron (Rueben) was born February 16, 1941 to Lester and Mary (Bohart) Morgan in Shunk, PA. Ron chose to live with his sister and brother in-law Marjorie & Philip Doud (mom & dad) so that he could graduate from Canton High School. To this day he still holds the record for the longest basketball shot at Canton High School.  Ron worked at numerous places: Rockwell’s Feed Mill, Pisgah State Park with two of his brothers (Harmon & Dick). Prior to purchasing the Canton Auto Supply where he turned the key each morning for over 30 years until retiring in 2010. 

Ron was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge 429, Social Member of the Troy American Legion, Morris Run Legion and Wilson Run Hunting Camp.  Time spent with family was most important.  He enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes or just relaxing with a beer.

He is survived by his wife Linda (Fritz), his children Cindy Lou (James) Reed of Canton and Ronald (Nancy) Morgan Jr. of Etters, PA.  Step daughters Jaimy (Kenny) and Amy (Rob). Three grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren.  One brother in-law, Philip (Dad) Doud of Canton and sister-in-law Myrtle Morgan of Troy, PA.  Numerous nieces, nephews and many, many friends! Also his bird Buddy! In addition to his parents Lester & Mary Morgan, he is predeceased by his brothers Harold, Harmon, Morris, Richard and sisters Geraldine, Gertrude and Marjorie. 
​
Visitation at Morse & Kleese in Canton will be held on Friday December 17th, 2021 from noon to 2:00pm with a service at 2:00pm.  Burial will follow at Glennwood Cemetery in Troy, PA.

​Christina “Tina” Demko

Christina “Tina” Demko, 55, beloved resident of Martha Lloyd Community Services in Troy, Pennsylvania was called home to her heavenly reward, Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.

The family received friends 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2021 at the Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton.  A memorial service to honor Christina’s life was celebrated immediately following at 11:30 a.m.  Burial will be private at a later date.

​Leon W. Putnam

Leon W. Putnam, 92, of Troy, PA passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the family farm on Armenia Mountain surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 11, 1929 in Canton, PA, son of the late William H. and Gertrude H. (Wood) Putnam. Leon was a lifelong farmer, worked with his grandfather as a well driller, was the 2nd shift foremen at Penn Troy, was the 3rd shift foremen at Paper Magic, delivered milk to East Smithfield, was a logger and worked in an apple orchard, and was a school bus driver for over 25 years for Foust Bus Company. His hobbies included watching the cows on his farm and spending time with his family.

Leon is survived by his children: Leon (June) Putnam, Jr. of Mansfield, PA, Deborah A. (David) Smith of Franklindale, PA, Kevin Keith (Jenifer) Putnam, Belinda S. (Joseph) Packard, Kim L. (Jackie) Putnam, and Tina (Gary) Wilson all of Troy, PA, 24 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews and special care giver Cindy Putnam. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Steve Putnam who passed away on May 25, 2012, brothers Robert, Julius, and Dale Putnam, and mother of his children Betty Lou (Tice) Putnam Mosley.

Velma M. Hickok Darrow

Velma M. Hickok Darrow, 94, of Columbia Cross Roads, living most of her years in Grover Pennsylvania, took the hand of God and was escorted by the angelic host to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 following a brief illness.

Velma was born October 19, 1927 in Canton to the late Clarence and Myrtle (Williams) McIlwain. No stranger to hard work, Velma was employed in earlier years as a babysitter for several local families. Later in life she was employed by the former Packard Hotel in Canton, Remington-Rand in Elmira, Bel-Mar and Swayze Folding Box Companies both of Canton as well as the Bradford County Manor. Most recently, Velma worked for the United States Post Office in various locations throughout the Bradford County area and retired from Grover Post Office as a clerk and Post Master in 1983.


Velma had a passion working with draft horses and enjoyed a good old fashion horse pull. She always looked forward to a visit from her grandchildren on any given day. Velma was a woman of faith in the Lord and was a long-standing member of the Christian and Missionary Alliances churches in Troy and Canton. She served in many capacities there including their Church Treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Most recent Velma was attending the North Street Community Church in Canton Township. She wholeheartedly loved the Lord and rarely missed a time of fellowship with the family of God as a whole.

Surviving Velma are her four sons; Roger (Connie) Hickok of Canton, John (Heidi) Hickok of Columbia Cross Roads, Randy (Debbie) Hickok of Troy and Fred (Mary) Hickok of Canton, 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Velma was predeceased by her husbands; Charles Hickok and Clifford Darrow, son; Wayne Hickok, sister; Verna (Bryington) Baxter, brothers in law; Pete Bryington and Roger Baxter, father-in-law and mother-in-law; Glenn and Molly (Wheterby) Hickok and a daughter-in-law; Carol Hickok.

Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton, with a funeral service to celebrate Velma’s life following at 11 a.m. with her son, John Hickok, officiating. A private burial will be afterwards in the Beech Flats Cemetery, Canton Township.
