Marjorie (Ross) “Pudge” Lyon

Marjorie (Ross) “Pudge” Lyon, 90, of Farmers Valley, PA, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was the loving wife of Homer R. Lyon. The couple married September 23, 1950 and had 71 happy years together.

Pudge was born on June 25, 1931 in Sayre, PA, daughter of the late Leigh D. and Ellen E. (Morley) Ross. She was a graduate of Troy High School, worked as the secretary for Troy Township until her retirement in 1992, and she and Demaris Kilgore had an upholstery business in Troy. Pudge was a long time member of Holy Trinity United Methodist Church where she was the organist, church financial secretary, Sunday School teacher, member of the administrative council, member of United Methodist Women, and held several other offices and positions. She enjoyed playing piano, riding horses, sewing and knitting, was an avid bowler and was a member of the Troy Bowling Hall of Fame. She and Homer volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 13 years. Homer and Pudge traveled with her sister and brother in law Burton Kingsley on many trips.

Pudge is survived by her loving husband Homer, her son Stephen R. (Charlotte) Lyon, daughters: Barbara (Jack) Andrus, Linda (Joe) Cinalli, Lorna (Reg) Wilson, and Amy Brown, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, sister Bertha Ann Kingsley, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Richard Ross, daughter in law Teresa (Grand) Lyon and son in law Charles Brown.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 1:00-2:00 PM on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 1214 Redington Ave. Troy, PA. The funeral service to celebrate Pudge’s life will be held at the conclusion of the viewing at 2:00 PM at the church with her pastor, Joshua Yorks officiating. Burial will be private in Glenwood Cemetery at the convenience of her family. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.

​Libby Mae (Welch) Jones

Libby Mae (Welch) Jones, 38, of Troy, acquired her sparkly angel wings on Friday, November 12, 2021 following a brief stay at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Libby Mae was born November 8, 1983 to Roger Welch and Ronda Ayres. She attended Troy Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 2002. After High School she went on to Study education at Mansfield University earning a degree in Secondary English Education, Wilkes University and North Central University where she obtained her Master’s in Social Work.

Libby was formerly employed by her Alma Mater the Troy Area Schools District as an English Teacher. She also worked for various businesses including; Beacon Light Behavioral Health as a family advocate, Animal Care Sanctuary as a development of records and research assistant, “Weddings” at Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel, teaching at EOP Head Start and most recently by Aveanna Healthcare in Case Management.

Libby is survive by; her son, the light of her life, Eli Jones, mother and step-father; Ronda Ayres (and, Frank Evans), her father, Roger Welch, siblings; Mudge (and Allison) Welch, Mitchell (and Sarah) Welch, niece, Myla and baby to be, Baby Bean, a step-brother  Dustin Evans, maternal grandparents, Ronald and Mary Jean (Dunbar) Ayres, paternal grandmother, Marilyn (Garrison) Welch, fiancé, Jeffrey Hadlock and Eli’s father, Eric Jones, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

Waiting to greet Libby are her Neena and Papa, Grampa Merle, Uncle Clark, and Aunt Donna. She and Aunt Eloise and Uncle Jim are now in cahoots and causing chaos in the clouds. 

Libby had a huge heart that was full of love and compassion. She was a very giving and caring individual who loved to live life. She was an avid reader and treasured any time she could visit the beach where she adored the sand and relaxing while watching the waves. She enjoyed laying in the sun especially at the beach or her pop’s pond in Troy Township. Most important to Libby was her family, particularly her son Eli, whom she loved endlessly.

All services will be private and at the  family’s convenience.  Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to what Libby loved throughout life, an Animal Care Sanctuary or a charity of choice to honor her caring and giving ways that will always be her legacy.

​Patricia Kay (Madigan) Pessoni

Patricia Kay (Madigan) Pessoni, 82, of Westbrook, Connecticut passed away peacefully at her home on October 28th with her husband and two daughters by her side. Patti was born July 23, 1939 in Sayre, Pennsylvania the daughter of William and Marion (Sill) Madigan.  She was a graduate of Canton High School, class of 1957 and Business School in Wilmington, Delaware.

After graduation from Business School, Patti worked as a secretary in the Education Department of Cornell University and then moved to New York City to work in the Art Department of House & Garden Magazine. She took a hiatus to work for Vogue Magazine in London, and then moved back to New York City where she met her husband of 47 years, Philip Pessoni. They moved to Pound Ridge, NY, where they raised two daughters and Patti taught nursery school for many years.

They retired to Westbrook, in 2008, where they renovated Phil’s family summer home along the shoreline of Long Island Sound. Patti found much happiness in her morning walks to the beach, and enjoyed sharing that with her daughters and grandchildren. 

She was a member of the Pound Ridge Community Church and Westbrook Congregational Church choirs; she also was a member of the PEO organization and the Salt Works Beach Association. 

She is survived by her Husband, Phil, Daughters, Anne (Jason) Lemieux and Clare (Pete) Frey. Her Grandchildren, Ethan and Graham Lemieux, Connor, Emma and Nicholas Frey, her Sisters, Carol Ann (Bill) Becker, Joy (Jerry) Brann, and Kathleen (Neil) Nelson and her many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends in Pound Ridge and Westbrook.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and will live on in our hearts. 

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 11:30AM at the First Congregational Church of Westbrook, 1166 Boston Post Road in Westbrook.

Terry Lee Stahle

Terry Lee Stahle, “Mex”, 45, of Columbia Cross Roads, passed away, Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at UPMC Williamsport Hospital due to complications from the Covid-19 virus. 

Terry was born November 6, 1976 in Okeechobee, Florida a son of Carol (Buck) Eddy and the late Kevin Stahle, Sr.

Mex was a hard worker. He was employed by various trucking companies throughout the area and most recently by Rough Cut Oil and Gas Services located in Wysox.

Terry loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping and all that nature had to offer. He was an avid online shopper, always ordering plenty, often maybe too much. Mex would lend a hand whenever asked and was one never to turn his back on family or friends. Most important to Terry, was his two daughters. He often looked forward to spoiling them and spending time with his girls was always special.

Terry leaves behind; his mother and step-father, Carol (Donald) Eddy of Austinville, daughters; Tailynn and Taleka Stahle both of Troy and his canine “son” Copper, siblings; Barbara (James) Rowland of Florida, Debbie (Frank) Leonard of Roaring Branch, Kevin Lee Stahle II of Alabama, step-brothers; Darrin Eddy and Donald (Jessica) Eddy all of Austinville, step-sister; Denise (Shaun) Brown of Troy as well as, one nephew, several nieces, cousins and friends. 

He was predeceased by his father; Kevin Stahle Sr.

Calling hours will be held 10 A.M. to noon on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton. A Funeral Service will immediate follow at noon with burial afterwards in the Bradford County Memorial Park. Mary Jean (Stone) Vermilya

Mary Jean (Stone) Vermilya, age 91, formerly of Canton, passed away Tuesday, November 9th, at Country Meadows in Wyomissing, PA.  Mary was born at the Cora Ross Maternity Home in Canton, PA on March 25, 1930, to Maude and Tracy Stone.

Mary attended Canton High School and after graduating as Valedictorian of her Class of 1947, she went to New York City to attend the Laboratory Institute, returning to Canton in 1950.  She began employment at the Troy Medical Center in 1952, where she worked for 40 years, retiring in 1992. She always said that there is no greater joy than having an occupation you love and spending your lifetime in service to others.  In 1960, she married Frank “Ed” Vermilya and they shared 48 years of marriage together until his death September 28, 2008.  They traveled throughout the United States after retirement and spent ten years in Florida being “winter snow birds”.
Mary liked vacationing with her two daughters and together they enjoyed cruising to Bermuda, the Caribbean and Hawaii.  One trip forever in her memory was in 1989 with her daughter, Cheryl, when they flew to Tahiti and took a sailing ship around the Polynesian islands.
Music in the church was a very important part of Mary’s life. She sang in the choir and served as a Deacon and Elder for many years at the Church of Christ in Canton.
She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in 1963. Mary was active in the Canton Music Club for over 40 years. After retirement, she was a hospice volunteer for Guthrie Clinic for 10 years.
Surviving Mary are her daughters Cheryl (Jerry) Sims, Reading PA and Maribeth Endress, Bloomsburg PA; stepdaughter, Cindy English, Stroudsburg PA; grandchildren: Bill (Donna) Sims, Dillsburg, PA; Mindy (Kevin) Andreyo, Reading, PA; Olivia (Kyle) Veen, Bloomsburg, PA; step-grandchildren: Wesley (Beth) English, East Stroudsburg, PA; Samantha (Manny) Varkanis, Stroudsburg, PA; nine Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Edgar Vermilya, brother Tracey Stone, stepdaughter Diane Disbrow, and Dave English, step-son-in-law.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 5153 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA 19560, is entrusted with the arrangements. ​MARTHA JEAN WOOD

On the morning of Saturday, November 6, 2021, well-known Canton resident Martha Jean Wood passed away peacefully at Bradford County Manor. She was 93 years of age. 

Born July 24, 1928 at the former Ross Maternity Home in Canton, she was the daughter of Howard and Laura (Innes) Baxter. Martha grew up the Bailey’s Corners section of Bradford County, attending the Granville school and graduating from Troy High School in 1947. 

She first worked for Troy Engine and Machine Company, and later for Canton attorney C. Arthur Bullock. She was married to Hiram G. Wood, Jr. with whom she enjoyed 56 years of marriage, and raised two sons, Hiram G. Wood, III and Michael Wood. From 1968 to 1972, when her sons were in high school, she attended Mansfield State College, and then Elmira College where she earned her Masters Degree in Reading in 1976. She taught at Canton Elementary School for 21 years. 

Martha was a woman of faith, and was a member of the Canton Ecumenical Parish. She was a past Worthy Matron, Past District Deputy and 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also very knowledgeable when it came to local history, and served as School Tour Director at the Bradford County Heritage Association Farm Museum in Troy. Other memberships include Canton Civic Club, Village Improvement Association, PASR Retired Teachers, as well as the local retired teachers and the Foxy Red Hatters. 

She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Hiram, throughout all 50 states and 23 foreign countries, especially visiting her son, Hiram, and family in Germany during their many years of employment there.

She is survived by her sons, Hiram G. Wood, III and his wife, Adele Mickley-Wood, and Michael Wood and his wife, Hong Shang Wood, grandchildren Laura, Adam, Ian, Quentin and Colin Wood, all of whom were dear to her heart, nephew Wayne Klawier and his wife, Patricia, and their son, Andrew Klawier, sister-in-law Marjorie Wood and three very special friends; Kathy Best, who looked after her when family members were out of town and John and Nichole Ambruch, who were as close to her as grandchildren.

A celebration of Martha Jean’s life will be held Saturday, November 20 at the Canton Ecumenical Parish, 103 N. Center Street, Canton. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM followed by services at 11 O’Clock. Interment will be at a furure date in Granville Cemetery. Donna M. Seeley

Donna M. Seeley, 77, of Elmira, N.Y. passed away on Nov. 2, 2021.  She was born in Canton Township, Bradford County, Pa., on Aug. 5, 1944, the daughter of the late Mildred and Clyde H. Seeley.

She is survived by her sister Veronica Seeley Newell, her brother James R. Seeley, and her brother-in-law Ralph Coppola along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donna graduated from Canton High School in 1962. Always a lover of books, she worked at the Steele Memorial Library in Elmira, NY until her health forced her to retire. After her library years, unwilling to sit home, she volunteered at the Arnot Hospital for several years, driving herself to and from the hospital.

An enthusiast of genealogy and history, she served as an appointed officer in the international Seeley Genealogical Society traveling to several locations around the country. During this time she learned she was a tenth-generation descendant of immigrant, Obadiah Seeley, who appeared in the records of Stamford, CT in the 1640s. 

She also enjoyed reading about Europe’s royal families, particularly that of Great Britain. She collected many books on royalty and has been a regular subscriber of Majesty Magazine for many years.  

Although she was stricken with multiple sclerosis at a young age, she loved to travel and took numerous trips with her sister Veronica and several of her nieces. Her family and friends were always impressed by her positive attitude and stamina. 

Besides her parents, Donna was predeceased by her sisters Evelyn (Herbert) Andersen, Madelyn (Arthur) Maynard, Betty Seeley, Winnifred (Herbert) Smouther, Melissa Coppola, and brothers Clyde Thomas (Joanne) Seeley, Wendell Seeley, niece Margie Maynard and nephews Gary Anderson, Steve Smouther and Danny Ashby.

Calling hours will be held on 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. Funeral services will follow at 3 P.M. with Pastor Charlotte Morse, officiating. Burial will be held in Grover Cemetery. Lisa Anne (Geyer) Mosser , 61, of Canton, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 4th due to complications from cancer. Born January 2nd, 1960 in Pottstown, Pa., she was the youngest daughter of Kenneth and Joyce (Richards) Geyer.

Lisa grew up in Gilbertsville and graduated from Boyertown High School. She spent a year in Belgium as a Rotary Exchange student. She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. There she met the love of her life, Steve. After leaving IUP Lisa had a successful career in sales, advertising and pharmaceutical software training. She moved to Canton, and for the past 7 years worked in an administrative role for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Tioga-Hammond Dams. A lover of nature, she greatly enjoyed observing the wildlife there.

Lisa had a great passion for family, friends food and cooking. She prepared amazing recipes and hosted wonderful family feasts. Gifted with a unique, compassionate soul she generously shared her warmth with others.

Lisa is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Steve Mosser, at home, sisters Beverly (& Tim) Acker of Seattle, Wa., and Gwynne Geyer of Lancaster, Pa., brother-in-law John (& Angie) Mosser, sister-in-law Becky (Mosser) Guillaume and father-in-law John (Jack) Mosser, all of Canton, She will be missed and forever remembered for her love and generosity by her nieces and nephews, Amanda, Ally, Katy, Tim, Josh, Jill, Daniel, Natalie and Nichole, great-nieces Mae, Laina, Maya, Amelia, Madison and great-nephews Ty and Malachi,

​Leotta G. (Morgan) Hurlburt

Leotta G. “Dollie” (Morgan) Hurlburt, 105, current resident of Orangeville, PA and former long-time resident of the Roaring Branch area, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the Nursing & Rehab Center in Mount Carmel, PA. 

Born May 30, 1916 in Shunk, she was a daughter to the late James and Sophronia (Lenord) Morgan.  She married her sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Hurlburt on April 16, 1933 in Shunk.  Together they were blessed with over 72 wonderful years together until Robert’s passing on June 14, 2005.  Dollie was no stranger to hard work, she assisted with the daily operations of the family’s dairy farm located near Gleason (Tioga County).  In addition to the many farm’s chores, Dollie was also employed by the former Swayze Folding Box Co. in Canton for many years, until her retirement in 1979.

Dollie had a passion for quilting and crocheting afghans.  She took pleasure in camping, fishing and was an avid reader.

Surviving are: her children; Alfreda Kaiser of Orangeville, Gerald (Ann) Hurlburt of Holtwood, PA, James (Sandra) Hurlburt of Canton and Dale Hurlburt of Arizona, 18 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband Robert, Leotta was predeceased by her siblings; George Morgan, Anna Boone, Nellie Sory, Gordon Morgan and Kenneth Morgan, a grandson Randolph Kaiser in 1972, two great grandsons; Randolph Kaiser in 1986 and David Kaiser in 1994, a son-in-law, Edwin Kaiser, and a daughter-in-law, Eileen Hurlburt.
