Jacqueline Isaacson Collins

     Jacqueline Isaacson Collins, 65, of Canton,  passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
    Jacqueline Marie, “Jackie”, was born December 3, 1949 in Troy, the daughter of the late William and Eloise (Dibble) Spencer.
    She was a 1968 graduate of Troy High School.
    In early years, Jackie helped cook and wait tables at her parent’s restaurant, the East Troy Diner.  She then moved with her parents and brothers to California where she worked in the healthcare field.   In 1972, Jackie returned home and worked for a time at the former Crowe Nursing Home in Canton.
    She then began a 36-year career with Canford Manufacturing Co. in Canton until retiring.  In 1987, Jackie married her first husband, Gary Isaacson, who passed away Dec. 12, 2004.   On Oct. 28, 2015 she married Thomas M. Collins.
    Jackie’s beautiful spirit touched the lives of many people and she was blessed with many lasting friendships.   She was a talented homemaker who found satisfaction in caring for her home, her flowers and lawn.   She also was an avid bowler.

Charles H. Zuris

    Charles H. Zuris,  66, of Gillett, PA, passed away October 29, 2015, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.
     He was born June 22, 1949, son of Arthur F. Zuris Sr. and Leona (Jones) Zuris.
    Charles worked as a tug boat captain for many years, and enjoyed being on or near the water and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed boating.
     He also enjoyed carpentry, NASCAR, cooking and was also a musician, playing guitar.
    Charles is survived by daughter Carrie Voorhees of South Carolina; brother Arthur Zuris of Waverly, NY; sisters Margaret Zuris of Montour Falls, NY, and Mary (Duane) Hanville of Elmira, NY;  grandchildren, Tyrell, Brieanna, and Ryan; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was predeceased by his siblings Wesley Zuris and Yvonne Spearen.
    Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, November 5, 2015 from 1  to 3 P.M. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA, a memorial service will follow at 3 P.M.

Robert E. Esaias

    Robert Elwood Esaias, 70, passed away October 28, 2015 at his home in St. Marie, Montana.
    Robert was born June 25, 1945 in Troy, PA to Hall and Mary Esaias.
    He graduated from Troy High School in June 1963 and joined the U.S. Air Force in November of 1963.  This was his first time away from the dairy farm and led to a long career, which took him to 15 different bases before retiring on January 1, 1985 from Malmstrom Air Force Base, in Great Falls, Montana.
    He moved to Minot, ND and worked as the Cable TV Chief Tech until 1989. Robert then moved back to Canton, and bought his grandfather’s farm. He remained in Pennsylvania until July of 2010, then returned to Montana, which was one of his most loved locations.
    During his life he was involved in the Boy Scouts as a Weeblo Leader and enjoyed coaching T-Ball.  He loved hunting and fishing, but spent every minute possible with his family first.

Clyde A. Applegate

    Clyde A. Applegate, 84, of Columbia Cross Roads, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.  He was the loving husband of Jeannette “Jeanne” M. (Hankins) Applegate.  The couple married April 25, 1951 and had 64 wonderful years together.
    Clyde was born December 29, 1930 in Toms River, NJ, son of the late Alonzo and Iona (Johnson) Applegate.  He was a US Navy veteran and belonged to Post #49 Troy American Legion and Post #8675 VFW of Troy.
  Clyde was a cabinet maker by trade and was owner/operator of Splinter Place Cabinetry in Toms River, NJ.

John F. Frey

   On the afternoon of October 25th, 2015, John Frederick Frey of Canton passed away quietly at Troy Community Hospital after a brave battle with cancer attributed to exposure to Agent Orange while in the service of his country.  He was 67 years of age.  
    Born in Canton February 23rd, 1948, he was the son of John S. Frey and Nellie (Bolt) Frey.   
    He was married to the former Juanita Smith, and together they raised two sons and a daughter.  John was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the Fourth U. S. Army.  He was a life member of the Canton VFW and a member of the Canton American Legion.

  Charles S. Brannaka

    Charles S. Brannaka, 80, of Trout Run, PA passed away at home Sunday, October 25, 2015.
    Born Jan. 21, 1935 in Roaring Branch, Lycoming County at the family home, Charlie was a son of the late John Fredrick and Adele (Favire) Brannaka.
    He was a 1952 graduate of Canton High School.  On May 2, 1954, Charlie married the former Jeanetta “Jimmie” Steinback in Calvert.

Gordon Higley

    Gordon Higley, 74, of Las Vegas, NV passed away October 23, 2015 following a battle with cancer.
    Born August 27, 1942 in Sayre, he was a son of the late Ralph and Lelah (McCarty) Higley.  
    Surviving are his son, Todd; daughters, Amy and Julie; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Clinton Higley of Laceyville, Myron Higley of Sunbury, Floyd (Sherrie) Higley of Muncy and a sister, Arlene Brown of East Troy.  
    He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents,
    Gordon was predeceased by four brothers, Donald Higley, Kenneth Higley, Bruce Higley and Dale Higley and two sisters, Evelyn Stevenson and Helen Brown.
  It was Gordon’s wishes that there be no public services.

Mavis J. White

     Mavis J. White, born Sept, 28, 1941 in Cortland, N.Y., the daughter of the late William and Helen (Spencer) Comfort, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
    Her brothers: Linden, Marv, Rodney, Norm, Lester and Vernon Comfort; sisters: Eugena Birch, Ruth Sampson, Winifred Struble and Gloria Jordon also preceded her in death.

 Carolyn A. Chappell

    Carolyn A. Chappell, 87, a resident of Twin Oaks Personal Care Home, Granville Summit, formerly of Old Mill Lane, Troy. passed away peacefully October 21, 2015, at the Guthrie Troy Hospital,Troy.
    Carolyn was born in Eldred, PA on December 27, 1927, daughter of the late Floyd and Eva Marie (Dempsey) Payne.
    She was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School and received a B.S in Elementary Education from Mansfield University. Carolyn and Richard were married on August 30, 1947 and celebrated 65 years of marriage together.  
    The funeral services were held October 24 at the First Baptist Church of Troy, with the Reverend Garry Zuber officiating.
  Interment followed in the Sabinsville Cemetery, Sabinsville, PA.

Janice E. Estep

    Janice E. Estep, age 86, of Troy, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Bradford County Manor.
    She was born August 5, 1929 in Troy, a daughter of Burton and Marguerite (Dunbar) Hager. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald E. Estep, on March 8, 2012.
    Janice was an active member of the Sylvania Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, especially in the music department. She also served as church Treasurer, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Aide. She also worked as a secretary at P.S. King Hardware in Troy, part-time as secretary for Sylvania Boro, Sec.-Treas. for Sylvania Cable Co. and Gustin's Jewelry Store. She always felt her greatest accomplishments were being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
