Barbara  L Manley

Beloved Mother Barbara L. Manley, 85, of Troy, PA passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. To many she was the most kind, thoughtful, and spunky lady who drove around in her little red jeep, and known as Barbie. She died peacefully with family by her side.

Barb was born on April 14, 1936 in West Leroy, PA, daughter of the late William L. and Leah (Bellows) Thomas. She graduated from Canton High School in 1954, after high school she worked a couple of manufacturing jobs, and started a family. In 1968 Barb started working in the dietary department at Troy Community Hospital where she retired from in 1998. After a year she went back to be a volunteer at the Troy Community Hospital. For the next 22 years she volunteered in the gift shop and delivering mail. Barb was volunteer of the year two years in a row. She loved volunteering and helping others.

Barb enjoyed spending time with her family, embroidering, word search puzzles, reading, bird watching, and going to and having rummage sales.

Barb is survived by son David Darrow, daughter Michelle Young (Jerry), granddaughter Casey Gleason, brother Edward Hammond (Mary), step-grandchildren Becky (Brian) Slattery, Erik Young, and Piper Young, and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased in death by her father William L Thomas, mother Leah Thomas, and sister Marcella Osmond.

Services are private and are at the convenience of Barb’s family. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main St., Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In Lieu of flowers Donations may be made to Troy Community Hospital c/o Gerrie Barrett noting to the Dietary Department, or Gift Shop in honor of Barbara L. Manley. Also to the American Heart Association.

​Connie L. Morgan

Connie L. Morgan, 69, of Canton, Pennsylvania (Leroy Township), passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Sunday morning, August 15, 2021.

Connie Lorraine was born in Sayre September 1, 1951, to the late Mace and Marlene (Segur) Gee.

On June 14, 1969, Connie married Russell O. Morgan in the Canton Church of Christ. Together they shared 52 years of wedded bliss and raised two sons. Connie was employed by Endless Mountains Transportation Authority as a Bus Driver for 15 years; where she enjoyed working and assisting the elderly. She was a member of the Marine Corps League and Red Run Rod and Gun Club both of Ralston.

Connie enjoyed traveling, especially the several cruises she shared with her husband Russ. She loved visiting the beach and feeling free as the ocean breeze. Connie had a passion for playing cards and was a very talented Euchre player. She was considered the family Matriarch. Connie’s number one priority was, “family always first”; especially her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are; her devoted husband; Russell “Russ” Morgan, sons; Rusty II (Angela) Morgan of Elkton, MD and Mark (Amber) Morgan of Trout Run, a sister; Carol (Thomas) Miles of Williamsport, grandchildren; Melinda, Marissa, Caleb, Aubrey, Madalyn and Laurel as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and dear friends.

Besides her parents, Connie was predeceased by a brother; Marty Gee.

Visitation will be from 1-2 P.M. on Monday, August 23, 2021 at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton; the funeral to celebrate Connie’s life will follow at 2 p.m.  Burial will be in the Leroy Cemetery.

Family will provide flowers, please consider a memorial donation to one of her favorite organizations, in Connie L. Morgan’s name, to St. Jude’s, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

​Louis Celli

Louis Celli, age 91, a resident of Wheaton, passed away August 18, 2021.  He was born September 15, 1929 in Peckville, Pennsylvania to Guerrino and Santina Celli.

Louis grew up in Peckville and graduated from Elmira College in New York. He worked as a technician at Westinghouse where he met his wife, Irene. Irene passed away in 2014. Louis later became an engineer at Zenith Electronics in Melrose Park, IL and retired after 25 years of service. He was an avid bowler and loved to fish & travel with his loving companion, Joy Lapano.

He is survived by his three children, Anita (Irv Pavlik) Celli, Carl (Bobbi Jo) Celli and Michael (Cindy) Celli; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 He was preceded in death by his wife Irene; his brothers Geno & Alfred; and his parents. 

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, from 9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 310 S. Wheaton Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187, where a mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.

Gerald Lewis Spencer, “Jerry,” 96, Widower of Grace Spencer, well known Canton resident, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 11, 2021, at Twin Oaks Personal Care Home in Granville Summit, PA., while surrounded by the love of his family.

Family and friends encourage you to attend a memorial service, to honor Mr. Spencer’s life, at  11:00 a.m., Sunday, August 28, 2021 at the Canton Church  of Christ (DOC), on the corner of Union St & N. Sharel A. (Chamberlain) Crane, 79, well known resident of Troy, PA, passed away on Friday, October, 16, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

Duane F. Pepper, 87, (Widower of Naomi (Kuhnle) Pepper) well known resident of Monroeton, Pennsylvania (Franklin Township), owner and operator of Pepper’s Auto Body Shop, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, August 19, 2021 at his home.

Barbara R. (Lee) Jennings

Barbara R. (Lee) Jennings, 61, Widow of Tim Jennings Sr., of Monroeton, Pennsylvania (West Burlington Township), passed away at home, Tuesday afternoon, August 17, 2021, with her loving family by her side.

Her family received friends Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 1 to 2:30 P.M. at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A memorial service, to celebrate Barbara’s life, followed at 2:15 with her twin-brother, Bob Lee, officiating. Burial was held in Glenwood Cemetery in Troy.

​Jean M. Bronson

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be—so he put his arms around you and whispered “come to me”

Jean M. Bronson, 75, of Troy Township, passed away early Sunday, August 15, 2021, at the Bradford County Manor surrounded by loving family members.

Jean Marie was born on April 22, 1946 in Troy, a daughter of the late Clyde and Mary (Parke) Allen. She attended Troy Area Schools and graduated with the class of 1964. Jean married J. Edward Bronson on August 8, 1965 in the Troy Baptist Church. Together they shared 56 years of loving and devoted marriage. She and Ed were true soulmates, always together, rarely seeing one without the other.

Jean was no stranger to a strong work ethic and was very intelligent. In her earlier years she worked as a secretary, before and then after graduation, at the former stocking factory in Troy. She then worked as a dispatcher for Masonite and later for the Daily Express Trucking Company both in Wysox. Jean and Ed established the Bronson Farm/Construction and Busing Company located in Troy Township. As well as being co-owner she served many roles in the company including Business Manager and Secretary. She also drove school bus for the Troy Area School District for many years. Always one to stay busy, Jean was also a licensed real estate agent and a licensed pilot.

 Jean truly cherished the outdoors, enjoyed deer hunting and took pride in being an expert marksman. Travel was also one of Jean’s passions, enjoying the many trips she shared with her beloved husband Ed especially those to the Southwestern United States, Canada and Mexico. Her attraction to western style clothing, especially fancy cowboy boots, reflected her love of the southwest culture.

Surviving are: her husband, J. Edward Bronson, brother Alton (Margie) Allen of Jacksonville FL, sister Cindy Warner or Butler, PA, sisters-in-law; Marjorie Brotzman of Peckville, PA and Jean Yard of Troy, devoted nephew Jeff Streby, as well as other special nieces and nephews, also dear friends Darla Spalding, Kathy Scheithauer, Laura Bohensky and Esther Morgan.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Robert Allen.

The family would like to thank the Bradford County Manor’s staff for the exceptional care and understanding they provided during Jean’s stay. Thanks are also extended to Home Caregivers Renee Belawske and Norma Elvidge.

In keeping with Jean’s wishes, a memorial service and burial in Hilton Cemetery, will be private and at the convenience of the family. ​Mary Lacy (Russin) Cummings

Mary Lacy (Russin) Cummings, Elmira, N. Y.,passed away peacefully at home with her family on Monday August 9, 2021, after an exceptionally courageous battle with cancer at the age of 45. 

Mary is survived by her loving husband Chip Cummings and their cherished children, Evan and Laura Cummings; parents Gerald (Jerry) Russin and Josephine (Joan) Lacy Russin; Parents In-law, Roy W. Cummings Jr. and Kim T. Cummings of Troy, PA; sister Heather (Phil) Welzant of Gambrills, MD; sister Jennifer (Mike) Furman of Elmira, NY; brother-in-law Scott (Robyn) Cummings of Troy, PA; brother-in-law Jay Cummings of Troy PA; and sister-in-law Shelly (Vaughn) Kendall of Troy PA. Also surviving Mary are beloved nieces and nephews: Adam and Claire Welzant; Amy and Kevin Furman; Ashley Cummings; Jacob, Justin, Jay, and Aahleisia Cummings; as well as Katie, Corbin, and Delaney Kendall.  Mary also has many surviving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mary’s family affectionately nicknamed her “Wee Mary” and “Aunt Mimi”. Mary is pre-deceased by her mother-in-law Carol O’Hara, grandparents Andrew Russin, Theresa Russin, Charles Lacy, and Jane Lacy. 

Born in Elmira, NY on May 23, 1976, Mary graduated with honors from Elmira Free Academy in 1994. Mary is also remembered as a passionate athlete, competing in tennis, soccer and softball.  As such she was inducted into the Elmira High School Sports Hall of Fame. Mary also loved the game of golf, as a player and enthusiastic spectator. After graduating from William Smith College in Geneva, NY in 1998 with a degree in Economics Mary was employed as an accountant with her father Jerry at his CPA firm in Corning, NY for many years, and later for Schweitzer Aircraft Corporation and Bucher Emhart Glass in Big Flats, NY.   

Mary and Chip were married on Palm Island in the Grenadines on October 4, 2003. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Evan in August 2006, and Laura in December 2009. Mary often said of her children, “they are the greatest joys of my life”.  The Cumming’s home was a happy and busy one as the family grew and spread their roots in Elmira, Troy and most recently Ovid. Family was always very important to Mary, including the family’s spunky dog Jackson. Mary was a fun-loving, energetic person who enjoyed taking trips and spending time with family and friends at the lake, the beach, a show or concert, and anything that brought her family happiness.  

Mary had many wonderful friends, and the acts of love and support from them during her illness were a significant source of strength to Mary and the family. Mary thought and spoke about her friends often and with genuine love. Mary was always the first person to happily celebrate the special events and good fortunes of those she loved, and she was equally as compassionate in their struggles. Mary’s photogenic smile and energetic personality were contagious. Mary will be loved, missed, remembered, and honored by many, as a mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor, co-worker, and friend to all. 

Mary and her family would like to thank Dr. Gosain and the dedicated, professional staff at the Guthrie Cancer Center in Corning, NY, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, for their compassionate care of Mary during her illness. In addition, thank you to Care First Hospice and especially to the wonderful Nurse, who went above and beyond with help and compassion when it was most needed. 

The family welcomes relatives and friends to Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Southside on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021 at 11 a.m. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Guthrie Cancer Center, CareFirst Hospice, or the Animal Care Sanctuary in East Smithfield, PA.

​Cynthia Jane Taylor

Cynthia Jane Taylor of Indian Lake, New York passed away peacefully at her home Thursday morning August 5, 2021 at age 79 years. 

Cynthia was born in the Taylor House on 60 North Minnequa Avenue, Canton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania on May 19, 1942.  Her mother didn’t want to disturb her father and thus waited too long and her father had to deliver her at home. This being the same house her Grandfather Floyd D. Taylor was born in on September 21, 1887. 

The daughter of James Hollis and Fredarica Amelia Johonnis Taylor, Cynthia (Cindy) graduated from Canton High School in 1960 and continued her education at Keuka College and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in nursing.  Cindy worked in different hospitals and colleges, went back to college, and in 1970 received her Master in Science degree majoring in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Boston University.  She taught at Keuka College, Russell Sage College, University of Connecticut and Plattsburgh State University of New York where she finished her teaching career in 2003. 

She was a member of many various learned and professional societies.  Cindy authored chapters in textbooks and other publications.  She was well regarded by her fellow associates as well as family members and  friends.

She is survived by her brother James Hollis Taylor, Jr, and (Linda) , nieces Deborah A. Taylor and Margaret E. Taylor Fitzpatrick and (Stephen), and nephew James H. Taylor, III and (Lucy), grandniece Kirin Taylor and grandnephews Devin Taylor and Denali Taylor. 

Upon her retirement she moved, with her friend and fellow nursing professor Eileen Benton, to a home they purchased on Lake Abenaki in the hamlet of Indian Lake, NY in the Adirondacks. 

She was predeceased by her parents James H. and Fredarica A. Johonnis Taylor, grandparents Floyd D. and Maude I. Brown Taylor, Fred E. and Ethel B. Clinton Johonnis and brother, Robert L. Taylor, nephew Davison T. Taylor and Deborah’s husband David Nielson. 

For many years her brothers enjoyed time with her at her home in Keeseville, NY and in Indian Lake, NY.  Usually Cindy would travel to her brother Bob’s home and then take him back to her home for two or three weeks vacation and then brother Hollis would come to visit with his wife and spend a week with Cindy, Bob and Eileen and then take Bob back to his home.
