Robert "Bob" Machmer

Robert “Bob” Machmer, 57, Canton, PA (Ward Twp.)  passed away Wednesday morning, February 28, 2018, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
    Robert Eddie,” Bob” or “Bobby” to family and friends, was born August 9, 1960 in Germany.  He was a son of Brigitte (Geng) Machmer Mays, Glen Rock, PA and the late Robert Bradley “Brad” Machmer.              A 1978 graduate of Thomas McKean High School in Wilmington, DE, Bob attended Philadelphia’s Culinary Institute and found his career’s calling as a chef.  
    He will be remembered as being an outgoing, strong-willed person with an engaging personality and great sense of humor.          Bob especially enjoyed cooking and muscle cars; his pride and joy was a ’69 Dodge Super Bee.
      In earlier years he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting.  
    Bob was a member of Canton’s American Legion Post 303 and Moose Lodge 429, also the MOPAR Club of America.

   Jenelle E. Davis, Age 29, of Gillett, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018.
    She was born January 12, 1989 in Towanda, daughter of Paula (Oley) Davis Cacciavillano and James Davis.
     She was a graduate of Athens High School, obtained her Bachelors Degree Binghamton University and also was a paralegal.
    She currently was employed at Ageless Spa. Jenelle enjoyed her work and spending time with her nieces and nephews that she absolutely adored.

Ruth M. Olsyn

  Ruth M. Olsyn, age 79, Columbia Cross Roads, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Bradford County Manor.
  Ruth was born January 20, 1939 in Morristown, NJ daughter of the late Rufin & Elizabeth (Hark) VanBossyut. Prior to moving to the area she was employed by the Mars Corporation, the maker of M & M’s.
    Following that she and her husband Michael J. Olsyn, Jr. purchased their farm on the Huntington Road and operated their farm side by side.  Ruth’s passion and dedication in life was her husband, children, grandchildren and the farm.

Elinor "Penny" Eckels

    Elinor "Penny" Eckels, 75, Troy, PA, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Troy Community Hospital.
    She was born on January 29, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of Lee and Helen (McGregory) Eckels
  Penny was a resident of the Martha Lloyd School since 1963 and had many friends in the community.
    She was member of the Troy United Methodist Church. Penny enjoyed reading the Daily Review, going to Vinnie's Pizza Shop and shopping.
    She is survived by her cousin, Marian Wahlgren in Lexington, KY.

Polly A. Gugino (Coons)

    Polly A. Gugino (Coons), of Greece, NY, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at age 81.
    Polly  was born June 9, 1936 to James and Dora Davison Coons of Canton.  She was a 1954 graduate of Canton High School.
 Polly attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College (now Bloomsburg University) for two years, then graduated from Elmira Business Institute in Elmira, NY.  She worked in the office of the Department of Education of New York in Rochester for many years until her retirement.

Glenn Crimbring

   Glenn Crimbring, 78, Canton, passed away at home while surrounded by family on Saturday morning, February 17, 2018.
    October 7, 1939, Glenn Mark Crimbring was born in Canton.  He was the son of the late Robert L. and L. Elizabeth (Hartung) Crimbring and a 1957 graduate of Canton High School.  
    Glenn married the former Yvonne Blocher on June 20, 1959 in Towanda.
     He was an active member of the East Canton United Methodist Church where he oversaw the operations of their sound system.  Glenn was a lifetime member of the Canton Volunteer Fire Company and a long-time member of the PA State Bee Keeper’s Association.
    Agriculture was the focus of Glenn’s life.  From the early years when his father owned a big apple orchard, Glenn had a smaller orchard and kept bees for pollination.  After downsizing the orchards, Glenn continued keeping bees and joined South Mountain Honey, which his father had started.
      In his later years, he was employed as an apiary (bee) inspector for the State of Pennsylvania and raised hogs.

Marrian E. Castle

   Marrian E. Castle, 97, Canton, PA was called home to Heaven on Friday evening, February 16, 2018 at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.
    Born June 12, 1920 in Granville Center, Marrian Elizabeth was the youngest of nine children in the family of the late George and Daisy (Mann) Cole.  
    She married Charles Edgar Castle and they made their home on the Castle family dairy farm near East Canton.    
    A homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Marrian also was a farmwife who helped with the daily milking.  She was blessed with a strong work ethic and remained active and engaged all her life.  
    Marrian was a member of the East Canton United Methodist Church, the Bradford/Sullivan Pomona Grange No. 23 and a 50-year plus member of the Beech Flats Grange No. 336.  She will be lovingly remembered for her trips to South Mountain to pick wild huckleberries and for being the “gadget lady” who wanted to have all the newest ones.
     Marrian also loved her cats and enjoyed pampering them.

George Cheesman, Sr.

   George Cheesman Sr., 85, Shunk,  passed away at home on Friday, February 16, 2018.
    George August Cheesman was born August 30, 1932 in Camden, NJ, the youngest child of the late George and Freida (Eschel) Cheesman.  
    After graduating in 1951 from Haddon Heights, NJ High School, George worked at the Sun Ship Yards in Chester, PA, retiring in 1982 as the yard’s superintendent.  He also was a talented carpenter and helped build several homes.  On September 24, 1976, George married the former Berneda Ellen “Peggy” Sullivan in Magnolia, NJ.
    An avid sportsman, George appreciated all nature’s beauty.  In earlier years he loved fishing in the ocean and hunting in the mountains.  He always worked a large vegetable garden and tended beautiful flowerbeds. George also enjoyed just watching the wildlife from his porch with a favorite beverage.

Beverly J. VanNoy

   Beverly J. (VanNoy) Weaver, 87,  East Troy, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Troy Community Hospital surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Theodore “Ted” Weaver who passed away on June 19, 2013.  The couple married November 24, 1955 and had 57 happy years together.
  Bev was born on May 25, 1930 in Sylvania, daughter of the late Leslie D. and Faye D. (Dewey) VanNoy.
     She originally worked with her parents at the L.D. VanNoy General Store in East Troy, then went off to nursing school at the Arnot Ogden School of Nursing where she earned her Bachelors of Registered Nursing degree. Bev worked for various doctor’s offices and hospitals in the Troy area and finally retired as Nursing Supervisor from the Bradford County Manor.
    Bev was a life member of the East Troy United Methodist Church and was the organist and pianist for many years.  Her life was dedicated to the church; where she was choir director, Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Bev was also a member of the East Troy Card Club and volunteered for the American Red Cross.

Leonard "Butch" Fields

Leonard “Butch” Fields, 71, Canton, PA, formerly of Lebanon County, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home.
    Leonard Sherwood “Butch” Fields was born December 15, 1946 in Newport News, VA.  He was a son of the late Bobby Mann Fields and Frances Mae (Kelley) Fields.   
    After graduating from Hampton High School in 1966, Butch served our country with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.  An electrician by trade, Butch also raised rabbits.  He enjoyed gardening and building model airplanes.  He was a member of Canton’s American Legion Post 303.
