Michelle Shedden Among First Graduates Center for Excellence in County Leadership

 A Leadership Training Program of the Co. Commissioners Assoc. of Pennsylvania
    The Center for Excellence in County Leadership (CEL), a premier professional development program of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP), is pleased to announce that Michelle Shedden, Bradford County Chief Clerk, has graduated from the program as part of the Center's inaugural class. CEL training focuses on fostering individual growth through interactive and high level classroom training aimed at improving participants' communication, management and leadership skills.
     CEL includes intense classes in styles of leadership, managerial versatility, interpersonal dynamics; crisis communication, media management; daily communication problem solving, decision making and other areas. CEL is the premier professional development program for county officials offered by CCAP. Participation in the program is based on a selection process and is limited to 20 participants.

Wilkes University Dean's List

    Emma Kraemer of Granville Summit and Thomas Swain of Troy attained the Dean's List for the Spring 2015 Semester.
    To be named to the Dean's List, students must earn a minimum 3.4 grade point average and carry at least 12 credits.

PennDOT Project On Rt. 414 Well Underway

The Rt. 414 (Main Street) repaving project is proceeding well. Workers from HRI are digging out bad sections of pavement, preparing these areas for fresh asphalt and patching the roadway. Later it will be ground and milled and we will have new highways in the Borough. The top picture shows an area with the pavement removed.

Patching in process. Traffic was disrupted on the first day of work (June 15) but since then the work schedule has been established and motorists have adjusted their patterns so things are going much more smoothly now. The rainy weather has halted work on some days.

Legislation Revived to Protect Natural Gas Royalty Owners

    In another effort to protect owners of natural gas royalty leases, Reps. Garth Everett,  Sandra Major, Matt Baker, Tina Pickett, and Karen Boback said legislation is being reintroduced in the form of House Bill 1391 to guard natural gas royalty owners from unjustified post-production cost deductions.
    “We fought for this legislation in the previous session in the form of House Bill 1684 and did not get a full floor vote,” said Everett. “We were able to get bipartisan support from the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee last session and hope to get that again, but we will also press very hard for the full House to consider it. …it is imperative that we gain fairness for conventional and Marcellus natural gas land owners and operators.”

Claverack Returning $1.1 Million In Capital Credits To Members

    Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative will return $1.1 million to members and former members of the cooperative in June. The refunds are the result of action by the Claverack board of directors to approve the retirement of $1.1 million in capital credits during its April board meeting.

Daleney Vartenisian Earns Scholarship

    For her response to a national contest regarding how participation in a program offered at Pennsylvania College of Technology helped her, a Penn College student was recently selected to receive a Mapworks Scholarship.
     The recipient, Dalaney T. Vartenisian, of Trout Run, is a Dean’s List student in the college’s Web and interactive media major and holds a part-time job on campus as a student photographer.

Dr. Drabick Named Director Of Animal Care Sanctuary In Wellsboro

    Animal Care Sanctuary is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Denise Drabick as the new Wellsboro Director. Denise comes with extensive background having been Principal of the Southern Tioga School District for over ten years and an Online Instructor for Humane Education University and DeSales University. She has volunteered for Animal Care Sanctuary since they started operating the Wellsboro shelter in 2011.  She traveled to Charleston, SC to receive training to present the Veterinary Science Initiative in the schools in Tioga County, which has been enthusiastically received and will continue to expand over the next school year.
