The Troy Rotary Club will be hosting the 1st Annual Big Pond Blue Moon Prediction Run on Friday, July 31st at the Lake Ondawa Pavilion in Big Pond. All proceeds from the race benefit the community projects of the Troy Rotary Club.
Joan Smith-Reese, Executive Director of Animal Care Sanctuary (ACS) is announcing a new member of the leadership team – Jerene Milliken, effective July 13th, 2015. Jerene is from Williamsport, has been a volunteer for ACS at PetSmart, transporting cats and assisting with events. She is also an adopter, taking home a cat from PetSmart. She comes with a wide array of experience. She is on the Williamsport School Board, she was Chief of Staff for the #83rd Congressional District and has extensive marketing background with hospice. She will be joining ACS 4 days per week. She will be one day in Wellsboro, one day in East Smithfield and two days in Williamsport. Throughout much of the summer she will be in East Smithfield for orientation and learning all about ACS history, programs, goals and vision for the future. Jerene resides in Williamsport with her husband and two dogs and three cats. She has four children. Animal Care Sanctuary, celebrating its 48th year, is one of the largest “no kill” shelters in the United States and cares for over 500 dogs daily. A second location in Wellsboro was opened in 2011. Having two locations in the state of PA has helped save hundreds of lives as we continue to adopt, spay/neuter, educate and provide a loving atmosphere for the animals who call ACS home. On Sunday, August 2nd, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, “The Butterfly Guy” Rick Mikula will present his popular butterfly program at Mt. Pisgah State Park’s Nature Center. For over 35 years, Rick Mikula has been delighting audiences of all ages with his humorous and off-beat way of looking at butterflies. An award-winning author with several books to his credit, he is also a photographer and habitat consultant, and has created butterfly atriums and gardens for Hershey Foods, Dolly Parton, among others. Kids need the outdoors, and the outdoors needs kids! On Saturday, August 22nd, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mt. Pisgah State Park will host the 21st annual Bradford County Youth Field Day. This year’s event will include activities in tracks, insects, birds, mammals, trapping, .22 shoot, building birdfeeders, fossils, survival, archery, black powder, sporting clays, canoeing, camp cooking, fishing, and turkeys. Registration is open! Call the Park Office at (570)297-2734 or email mtpisgahsp@pa.gov to register your child (age 5-18) and learn more details about the program, such as a free lunch, t-shirt, and a commemorative embroidered patch FREE to all participants. This program is open to all children, ages 5-18. The classes may change, but the excitement does not as trucks and tractors compete for prize money and trophies on the track at the Tioga County Fair. Tuesday, Aug. 11, trucks ranging in size from pickups to semis will be featured at the Truck Pull starting at 7 p.m.

That dream became a reality when he was selected to umpire at the 2013 Big League Softball World Series tournament in Lower Sussex, Delaware. Chuck is the only umpire from Pennsylvania District 15 to have been selected to umpire any World Series tournament. Now, Chuck has the distinct honor of being selected to umpire at a second World Series tournament. He will be umpiring at the Junior Softball World Series tournament in Kirkland, Washington on August 2-8, 2015. The championship game will be televised on ESPN at 2 PM on August 8. Dave Martin Enterprises presents Bull Ride Mania at the 49th annual Tioga County on Thursday, August 13th, with all the thrills and spills bull riding entails, along with comedy, clowns, audience participation, and animal acts for all ages.
The Little Buckaroo Rodeo for Kids has three age-appropriate categories for children to compete in: Kids Sheep Riding, age 6 and under; Kid’s Stick Horse Race, age 6 and under; and Kid’s Stick Horse Race, age 7-12. A Dance Contest rounds out the Kids division of events. Each competition features a $20 purse. There is no entry fee, advance sign up and no release waiver required for the stick horse races and dance competition. No entry fee is required for the sheep riding competition, as well, but parents do need to sign a release waiver and sign-up starts at 5 p.m., with room for only the first 20 kids to compete. On July 21, the Corey Creek Ladies Golf League played "Hate 'Em" Before play, golfers circled four holes (two holes for 9-hole league) they hate. Team draw will be held August 2, 2015 at 6:p.m. at the Canton War Memorial Pool. For the teams already registered, please send a representative to draw for your team placement that evening. If unavailable, we will draw for your team.
All participants please be advised that no metal cleats will be allowed during play. Aside from being dangerous to the other players, the base bags are being torn up. We appreciate it. Also, if you have not already done so, please bring your sponsorship fee at the time of team draw. Hope to see you there! Friday night, August 7 we are planning an “Over 35” ballgame at the Leroy ballfield. Time to begin is 6:00. You need not bring a whole team, individuals are welcome. We will divide the number of participants into teams. Bleachers are there for your use or you can bring your lawn chairs. Food and drinks will be provided for all and set up in the community building. The fee is $10 per player - spectators, friends, spouses and children will be a donation. After expenses and a donation to the Leroy Community Association the remaining funds will be donated to Ryan’s Hope for distribution. We tried our first year of this in 2014 and everyone had an enjoyable time. Please plan to attend and participate! |
