During the regular August 18 meeting of the Troy School Board, the topic of General Obligation Bonds was discussed with Les Bear, representing Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated. There is an additional article in this edition of the paper. These reports were given: Pennsylvania School Boards Association - Bill Brasington reminded all board members to attend the PA School Board Association's Conference. He liked what they talk about and said he was very impressed with the speakers and the seminars. Primary School Report - Steve Brion, said that the staff was in and very excited about the school year and the new programs which will be instituted. Kindergarten orientation was August 20. Intermediate School Report - Mary Abreu noted that "We have a good first day. Building is prepared and getting cleaned up. Final cleaning take place." Junior/Senior High School Report - Principal Sue Shipman noted that they recently held an iPad orientation where almost the entire student body and their parents were in attendance. She said that the students were very excited about using their iPad. |
"The questions asked were great and one parent brought up a topic about security we did not address (When the students are athletes and they don't go home, their iPad is in the lockerooms. What if someone steals them? We are going to address this issue," Mrs. Shipman told the board. The meetings with the staff also went well.
Rebecca Stanfield, principal of grades 10 to 12, said that all winter sports are practicing and getting ready for the seasons. Superintendent Charles Young
spoke about the Professional Learning Community (PLC) in which several of his staff took part. He did note that this curriculum concentrated on viable learning, the same lesson being taught to all; common assessment, and the date learned would be the date tested on. "No teaching to the test," he said.
Under Transportation issues: The board approved the Driver Listing, Substitute Driver Listing and the Daily Bus Rate Listing.
The resignation of Denise Slingerland as 3-hr Casual Cafeteria at TIS was accepted.

The board approved a motion to
approve the memorandum of understanding between the district and the TAESPA regarding justifiable leave.

Joe Mohr - TIS 4-hr Casual Custodian to JSHS 4-hr Casual Custodian; a Kathy Kessler -JSHS Category 3-Secretary Aide to JSHS Category 3, secretary.
The Resignation of Sarah Brown, Science Teacher at JSHS, was rescinded. It had been approved August 11.
The board approved a 3-year contract with NRG Controls North, Inc. for preventative maintenance on the electronic controls at a maximum cost of $10, 200.00 per year for the 2015-2016 & 2016-2017 school years and $10,500.00 per year for the 2017-2018 school year.
The 2015-2016 Athletic Season Pass Prices were approved.
The board appointed Bill Brasington and Dan Martin as voting delegates for the PSBA Legislative/Policy Council Meeting.

The board accepted a $500 donation from the Troy Area School District Foundation to be used towards the Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab
The board also accepted a donation of player socks, player warm-up shirts, trapezoid and shield bags from the Troy Trojan Touchdown Club to be used by the Troy Jr/Sr High School football team.
A motion was approved to accept a sousaphone from William Rupert, Class of 1972, to be used by the Troy Jr/Sr. High School band department.
