The Canton Area School District Board of Education held its April meeting with President Jared Wilcox and directors Judy Sourbeer, Mike Herman, Bill Holland, Gary Black, Ryan Allen, Eric Anderson and Dennis Sourbeer, Superintendent of Schools Matt Gordon, Elementary Principal John Rimmer, High School Principal Craig Coleman, Business Manager Mark Jannone, Special Education Supervisors Dan Coran, Food Service Director Shawna Lee, and Solicitor Richard Sheetz and an audience of five.
The board approved a proposed tentative 2015-16 budget with revenues of $14,463,970 and expenses of $14,972,252. The deficit of $508,000 will be absorbed by the fund balance. There are no tax increases in the proposed budget.
The minutes from the March 12 Regular Board Meeting and the March 24 Finance/Policy Review Committee Meeting were approved.

The board approved the Treasurer’s Report, the bills lists, the list of Tax Adds, Exemptions, Exonerations and the transportation (van route) changes.
The General Business, Art. Shop, Science, Custodial and Fall Athletic bids for the 2015/16 school year was approved, not to exceed the combined threshold of $61,058.53
A bid was accepted from Nelson and Streeter for pavement crack filling, sealing and restriping for a total not to exceed $32,445.00. The alternate bids for milling and paving and all other bids for crack filling and sealing were rejected.
The board accepted the Memorandum of Understanding with the Canton Area Education Association adding the position of Orchestra Advisor for the 2014/15 school year at a stipend of 4.75 Points = $1,022.53.
The board accepted a Memorandum of Understanding between the school district and Business Manager Mark Jannone, pertaining to Healthcare for the 2015/16 fiscal year. Mr. Jannone stated that he is going onto the same Health Reimbursement Account than the teachers. He said the district would save money by having only one plan.
The resignation of Jason DeLozier as Student Learning Leader and Weldon (Jake) Shaffer as Assistant Softball Coach were accepted.
Kyle Thompson was approved as a volunteer Track Coach.
Ernest Turner was added as a substitute custodian.
The 2015/16 Game Helpers Pay list Per Event was approved. (see separate article).
Nancy Neff was hired as a morning crossing guard at $7.25 per hour.
The board gave first reading of these revised policies: No. 121 – Field Trip ;. No. 222 – Tobacco Use; No. 307 – Student Teachers/Interns.
The third quarter central treasury reports for Canton Elementary and High School were approved.
The board held a Finance/Policy Review Committee Meeting on March 24, 2015 to discuss the preliminary 2015/16 budget and held an executive session prior to tonight's board meeting to discuss personnel issues.
