
Sam was born on July 5th, 1940 in Elmira, New York, the son of Samuel and Lizzie Allen Manley. He was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1958 and began working at the John Deere dealership while still in high school. This was a job that he greatly enjoyed as talking to people became a favorite thing.
He continued with John Deere until joining the United States Air Force in 1962 where he served for eight years, receiving a National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge, Sam continued with John Deere until he began a career with the Dupont Corporation in July 1982 to July 2005 becoming a technical specialist in the Research and Development Department.
Sam was a member of the First Methodist Church in Troy, The Troy Grange and a 42-year perfect attendance member of the Sylvania Lions Club, serving in offices of President, Secretary and Zone Chairman. He received the Lions of PA. Foundation Fellow Award and the Lions International Melvin Jones Award.
His many travels included trips to Ireland, Austria to see the Oberammergau Passion Play, Germany, Switzerland, China, Italy, Alaska, Hawaii, and many trips in the United States.
He is survived by his best friend and partner, Anita Pedro; sister and brother-in-law, Paul and Linda Everts of Troy, niece, Christine and husband Steve Andrulonis of Troy; four nephews, Rodney and wife Deb Manley of Troy, Allen Manley of Troy, Michael and wife Carol Ann Manley of Mississippi; Paul (PJ) and wife Jen Everts of Troy; sister-in-law, Hazel Watkins of Troy, step children, David Darrow; Shelly and husband Jerry Young, Jo and Roger Sollick of Ohio, and Jon Pedro of Florida; 8 step grandchildren and 21 step great grandchildren plus many special cousins.
In addition to his parents, Sam was predeceased by a brother Larry and a stepson, Jeffrey Pedro.
The funeral service was held on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 at the Maryott Bowen funeral home, 217 York Ave. Towanda, Pa. with Rev. Ken Marple officiating. Burial followed at the Bradford County Memorial Park in Burlington Township.
