Jeffrey Duane Scheepsma

10/8/2016

Jeffrey Duane Scheepsma, age 59, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Elmira NY, and Wetona, PA, was called to heaven, unexpectedly, on October 8, 2016.
He was born July 19th, 1957, in Batavia, NY, the son of Duane A. and Patsy Burbage Scheepsma.  Jeff was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Kathleen Doris Burbage, favorite uncle, Walter Burbage, Jr., and his biological father, Duane.  He is also the son of Victor and Patsy Burbage Chapman, of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa. He leaves 2 loving sisters, Lori Scheepsma Antonson, of Chatham, NY, and Lisa K Scheepsma, of Waverly, NY., a step-sister, Lisa Chapman Schucker, of Sylvania, Pa., and a step-brother, Rodney Chapman, of Florida.
Also surviving are his dear nephews and nieces, Justin L Robinson, of Virginia, Casey Jeffrey Duane Voorhees, of Waverly, NY., Krista Antonson, of Chatham, NY,  Hannah Antonson, of Texas, Adrienne Antonson, of Illinois, and Jacquelyn Antonson (Tobi)  Greiff, of Maryland.  He was a caring uncle to three great nieces, Nelayna and Arya Robinson, of Virginia, Jayden Voorhees, of Waverly, and a much anticipated great niece-to-be, of Maryland.  He is also survived by many special cousins, including Cheri Burbage Thomas, of Big Pond, PA, and his faithful, loving, canine companion, Tara.
Jeff attended Hopkins St. School, in Elmira, NY, and graduated from Southside High School in 1975. He worked as an auto mechanic, and car/truck body man, in Elmira, for many years.   He married his first wife, Karen Dickinson, McLean, in 1978. And though divorced, they remained  friends.  He later married Vicki Moran Wandell, of Millerton, PA.   Following their divorce, after eleven years, Vicki and Michael Wandell married, both of whom remain much loved family members.  Their loving friendship continued, when all three moved to Charlotte, NC, where Jeff took employment at Black & Decker, Corp., as an inspector, until ill health forced him to leave.  Michael and Vicki closely checked in on Jeff, following the amputation of both his legs, in 2010 and 2011.
Jeff had a life-long love for cars, and was a die-hard NASCAR fan.  He collected and built model cars, since age 10.  He also collected Matchbox and Hot Wheels vehicles. He, and his step-dad Victor, participated in local demolition derbies, where they won numerous trophies.  He leaves behind many childhood friends in the Elmira area.  Jeff will always be remembered for his signature sense of humor and wit, and his undying love for his family.  A Celebration of LIfe, in Jeff's memory, is being planned by the family, and will be announced at a later date.
Our family would like to thank Dan Gilliland, of Vickery Funeral Home, in Troy, for all his help with arrangements for Jeff.  He is a very kind, compassionate man, and we are very thankful for his efforts in making it easier for us to make the decisions before us, from out-of-state.
