She was born in Elmira, August 20, 1931 the daughter of the late William and Mary (Adams) Lowery.
Doris’ life-long passion for culinary services led her to own and operate Lowery’s Restaurant in Big Flats and manage Pippins Restaurant in Elmira Heights. Later, she ran the kitchen for the local Meals on Wheels. Her family took the top priority in her life, always putting their needs before her own. In her later years, there was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John in 2010, along with her sisters: Teresa Mallette, Alice Erway, and Helen Campbell.
She is survived by her children: Robert Besanceney of Naples, FL; Marilou Besanceney of Webster, NY; Janette (Don) Zeigler of Horseheads, NY; Pete Kiff of Elmira. grandchildren: Lisa (Mark) Lambert, Andrea (Roy) Schumaker, Sarah (Jason) DeRise, Preston Kiff, Parker Kiff. Great-grandchildren: Nicholas Fidurko, Ryan Fidurko, Alexis Lambert, Chloe Webb, Rebecca DeRise, and John DeRise. Sisters: Marie Stricker, Carol (Richard) Wade, W. Michael (Kathy) Lowery. Brothers in law: Allen Mallette, Harry Erway, Carlton Campbell. Very dear and close friend, Mary Frantel, along with several nieces, nephews and her loyal canine companion “Furby”.
Funeral services celebrating Doris’ beautiful life were held at the conclusion of the calling hours at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, May 23. Graveside services followed in the Park Cemetery, in Canton, directly following.
