Calvin Noah Jones of Crooks Terrace, Canton, passed away April 10th, 2018 at the Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda. He was 67, and husband of Mary Ellen (Johnson) Jones.

He was born on May 13, 1979 in Sayre, PA, the son of Stanley and Barbara (Stetson) Densmore. Dave was a Truck Driver, most recently employed with Matthews Trucking. He loved spending time with his family and friends on the 4-Wheelers and sitting around the bonfires. He enjoyed fishing. Dave could always be counted on to pull a prank on anyone available and no one ever could avoid being on the receiving end of his “wet-willies”. He is predeceased by his father; Stanley Densmore, brother; Toby Densmore, paternal grandfather; Joseph Densmore, maternal grandmother; Mary Stetson, and several aunts and uncles. David is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years; Bambi at home; children; Kreyanna Jackson and Bradley Pequignot, Blossburg, Shynell Jackson and Tyler Nemeth,Towanda, and Joslyn Jackson at home; mother; Barbara Jackson, Binghamton, NY; step-father and step-mother; Sam and Sheila Jackson, Hornell, NY, and paternal grandmother; Iva Austin of Florida. It is with great sadness that the family of Charles "LaVerne" Jennings, 87, announces his passing, January 2, 2018.
He was in Yuma, AZ with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for their first ever family reunion. LaVerne was born in Elmira, NY on November 21, 1930. He was the son of the late Mildred L. (Grinnell) and Charles E. Jennings. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie J. (Martin) and son, David. He is survived by his 5 children; Deborah, Douglas, Dawn, Duane, and Daniel, as well as siblings; Donald and Margaret Everett Sr. He was raised as a farmer and pony roadster racer on the Homestead in Daggett, PA and attended Troy High School. He graduated in 1948 from a general studies track. He returned to Daggett after his 33 year Navy career. In the U.S. Navy, he served as an Electronics Technician, a Winged Air-crewman, and an Aviation Warfare Specialist, deployed on the USS WASP, USS Coral Sea, and USS Kitty Hawk. He was a foreign war veteran and received numerous awards including: Campaign Awards, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Gallantry Cross with Palm, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal With Bronze Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and was recognized as a Navy pistol sharp shooter. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD. Harry W. Jones, 86, Troy, PA and former long-time resident of Grover, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital. Harry was born in Canton Township on August 10,1931 to the late Harry J. and Ruth (Lundy) Jones. He was a 1949 graduate of Canton High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Nov. 30, 1958, Harry married the former Sandra Boyd in the Grover Church of Christ. They were blessed with five children and 56 years together before her passing on Mar. 23, 2015. Family came first in Harry’s life. In addition to owning and operating a dairy farm near Grover for many years, Harry also enjoyed doing carpentry jobs throughout the area. In earlier years he drove Canton school bus and worked for Penn Dot. Harry was an active part of the Grover Church of Christ, serving not only as a church elder for more than 50 years, a trustee and Sunday school teacher but was a long-time chairman of the church’s board, their building committee and Sunday school superintendent. Born to Charles and Virginia Morgan on July 13,1947, she was one of four daughters. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading her Bible. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton now known as Lighthouse of Faith Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and her grandchildren especially. Surviving are: daughter Virginia Star Smiley(Bill), Roaring Branch; son, Michael Spencer, Canton; sisters Louise Mundrick(Fred, Sayre, Betty Bohlayer(Don), Sayre, Lorraine Sklarkowski, Athens; grandsons Adam(Kristen)Michael,Rock Hall, MD, Matthew Murchake, Roaring Branch, Josh Murchake, Troy, Ryan Murchake; granddaughter, Heather Smiley; two great grandchildren Gavin and Mahliya. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Morgan in 1997. her mother Winifred Virginia Morgan in 1995 and her grandmother Dorothy Haxton in 1990. Phyllis Chaapel Jolley, 87, passed away peacefully from this life the morning of July 20th, 2017. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during her final days. Phyllis was born in Leroy to Harley and Nora Rogers Chaapel on November 29th, 1929. She graduated from Canton High School in 1947 & from St. Agnes School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD as an RN in 1951. She has called Orlando, Florida home since 1956. Always the caregiver, Phyllis touched the lives of so many with her thoughtfulness and kindness. As a founding member of the Azalea Park Suburban Women’s Club, she gave back to her community for over 50 years. The love she had for her family and music, especially playing the piano, was paramount throughout her life. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles C. Jolley formerly of Troy; three children - Alan Jolley, Mary Bonifay and Roger Jolley; and two adored granddaughters – Emily Alyse Bonifay and Ande Nora Joyce-Jolley. Jones, 89, of Troy, PA, passed away peacefully, April 8, 2017 at home. Jean was born in Dunmore, PA on February 7, 1928, the daughter of the late Theodore and Jennie (Gromlich) Compton. She and Donald A. Jones were married on February 21, 1948 in Scranton, PA and just recently celebrated 69 years together. Jean was previously employed at the Clarks Summit State Hospital as a telephone operator, and during WWII worked as an operator. Jean also owned JLJ Company, in Troy, PA, which distributed advertising materials. Jean enjoyed playing bridge, collecting dolls, and traveling with her husband, Don. She was an avid bowler and could always be found baking and cooking for her family who she loved and adored, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include husband, Donald A. Jones, Troy; son, Donald A. (Dawn) Jones, Clarks Summit, PA; daughter, Debi Hays, Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Dylan Hays, Beau Hays, Bryan Jones, Carly Hays and Justin Jones; five great grandchildren; brother, Harold Compton,Clarks Summit, PA; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Dean was born September 4, 1944 son of the late Leon and Esther (Eddy) Johnson. Dean was a US Army Veteran serving two tours during the Vietnam War. He was an M.P. in Germany and a former officer with the Maryland State Police and the Canton, PA Police Department. For many years Dean owned and operated Deano's Service & Repair in Austinville. In his spare time Dean enjoyed boating on Lake Ontario, and enjoyed his daily visits with all his friends that stopped by his repair shop. Survivors include two sons, Dean (Annette) Johnson, II, Austinville, Ben (Heather) Johnson, Arnot; daughter, Tina Gillis Johnson, East Canton; brothers, Donald (Carol) Eddy, Gary (Donna) Eddy, Duane Johnson; sister, Judy Withey all of Austinville; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Gerald. William H. “Bill” Jones, 83, Ralston, PA (husband of Virginia) passed away on December 31, 2016 at Manor Care North in Williamsport. William Herbert was born July 3, 1933 in Williamsport, Bill was the son of the late Paul Jones, Margaret (Dowling) Berry and was raised by his step-father, Robert Berry. He graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1952. On Sept, 15, 1955, Bill married the former Virginia Doddato in Maryland. They made their first home together in Ralston where Bill lived for the rest of his life. For over 34 years, Bill was the Ralston Postmaster, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed hunting and jeeping on McIntyre Mountain, boating and NASCAR’S Bill Elliot. Bill was of the Catholic faith and a member of the St. Aloysius Church in Ralston. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ginny, sons; William P. (Sally) Jones of Phoenixville, PA, Michael (Cathy) Jones of Middlesex, NJ, Gary (Jen) Jones and Jay (Wanda) Jones all of Ralston, also Bobby Finnermore of Maryland who Bill raised and loved as a son, four grandchildren; Cody, Caleigh, Makenna and Dakota Jones. Scott L. Jennings, 46, Canton, (Leroy Twp.) was called home to Heaven on Saturday evening, November 26, 2016 at his home while surrounded by loved ones. Born August 7, 1970 in Troy, Scott was one of four sons of Larry D. and Sherry S. (Shoemaker) Jennings, Granville Summit. He was a 1988 graduate of Canton High School. On September 2, 1995, he married the former Nicole L. Hartford in the Canton Ecumenical Church. While Scott was employed by Canton Manufacturing in early years, he found his calling by pursuing an interest in helping others. He began a more than 20-year career as a Paramedic through the Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center’s Paramedic Training Institute. Scott was employed with Susquehanna County’s Barnes Kasson Hospital, Greater Valley EMS, Montrose Minutemen EMS and Western Alliance EMS. Most recently Scott worked at Guthrie’s Memorial Hospital in Towanda. He was an active member of the Independent Baptist Church in Leroy. Also, a supporter of his community, Scott was a life-member of the Canton Volunteer Fire Company, an EMT volunteer with Western Alliance for over 15 years; his service was recently honored by retirement of his Medic Number 13. Scott coached for Troy Area Youth Soccer, Leroy’s Little League Softball and for Northern Tier United's Travel Soccer. |
