Larry was born on Apr. 15, 1940 in Canton, Pa. son of the late Lawrence A. and Blanche (Swingle) Case. His early life was spent on the farm in Beech Flats until moving to the farm in Troy at the age of 16. Larry was a graduate of Troy Senior High School, class of 1958. Larry’s passion was farming and he ran the family dairy farm until his retirement in 2009. He was able to keep machinery on the farm working with his excellent mechanical abilities and expert welding. His memberships includes being a lifelong member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association (PFA) which is now the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and a member of and past chairman of the Troy Agway committee. He was also a member and past president of the Troy School Board in the 1980’s. Larry was a member of the Austinville Union Church, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Bradford County Gideons. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed bowling in the 2 in 1 league at Terrace Lanes.
M. Lawrence “Larry” Case, 78, of Old State Road in Troy, Pa., passed away on Thursday, Apr. 11, 2019 at the Bradford County Manor. He was the loving husband of the late Virginia “Ginny” (Lyon) Case who passed away Jan. 12, 2010. The couple married May 6, 1962 and had 47 happy years together.

Frank Chrzan, 64, well known Troy, Pa. resident, passed away with family by his side on Monday, Apr. 1, 2019 at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Born Mar. 2, 1955 in Troy, Frank Evan was one of four children in the family of the late Raymond J. and Lula “Toddie” (Jenkins) Chrzan. He grew up on the Family’s dairy farm in Troy Twp. and graduated from Troy High School with the class of 1973. In early years Frank worked for Troy Agway and gained experience in several construction trades that led to establishing the Chrzan Construction Company which he owned and operated for many years until recently retiring. An avid hunter, Frank enjoyed a life-long appreciation of nature. He especially loved times spent on many hunting trips to Colorado and teaching his grandkids to hunt. Frank also was a talented woodworker and handyman. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a person who spoke his mind honestly and told it as he saw it. He believed in a good day’s work and instilled that work ethic on to this family. Frank was a member and supporter of the NRA, the National Wild Turkey Federation and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Frank Chrzan, 64, of Troy, Pa., passed away on Monday Apr. 1, 2019 at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
A memorial service and celebration of Frank’s life will be announced at a later date. Burial will be private. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Catherine (Pongratz) Covert.
Born Aug. 3, 1936 in Somerville, Somerset County, N.J., he was the son of Abram and Grace (Drake) Covert. He was one of 11 children. Jack attended the Millstone School in Somerset and went on to own two successful businesses: Covert’s Excavating and Somerset and Jack’s Place in Ralston. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, The Red Run Rod and Gun Club, The Wheel Inn Private Club, The Somerset Volunteer Fire Company, where he was an officer for many years, the Franklin Farmer’s Hunting Club and a strong supporter of the National Rifle Association. Ray H. Chaapel, 84 of Grover, PA peacefully passed away at his daughter, Kitrina’s, home with his loving family by his side on the morning of December 28th, 2018. Preceding Ray were his parents, his wife Paula A. Chaapel, his sister Marie Hoyels and his brothers, Vick George, and Fred Chaapel. Surviving Ray are his children, Ray H. Barnes of Altoona, PA, his brother Stanley Chaapel of Canton, PA, his sister Pauline Chaapel of Canton, PA, and several nieces and nephews. Kenneth Carnwright, 70, well-known Canton resident, peacefully passed away on Thursday evening, Dec. 13, 2018 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Born Oct. 22, 1948 in Sayre, Pa., Ken was the son of the late Phillip and Zilpha (Kipp) Carnwright. He graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1966 and continued his education at the former Williamsport Area Community College earning an Associate’s degree in Heavy Equipment Operations. On July 12, 1970, Ken married the former Marcia Jenkins in Roseville, Pa. Kenny possessed a strong work ethic all his life and was a gifted heavy equipment operator. In 1972, he began his career in excavating, later establishing Carnwright’s Excavating Company. He saw to its operations for many years until his retirement when handing the family business down to his daughter and son-in- law. Frances Elaine June (Perry) Carter, 83 of West Burlington, Pa., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018 at the Bradford County Manor surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Mark Taylor Carter, Sr. who passed away on Oct. 11, 2008. The couple married in 1963 and had over 45 happy years together.
Fran was born on June 21, 1935 in Amherst, N.Y., daughter of the late William Perry and Eleanor Lowenstein. For several years Fran was a salesperson at Sears until her retirement in 2008. She attended East Troy Baptist Church, enjoyed cooking and canning, sewing, and playing the lottery. To her, family was everything, especially her grandchildren, and she looked forward to family gatherings and holidays. Mary Jane Cranmer, 74, of the Colonial Towers, Towanda, PA passed away Wednesday morning, September 5, 2018 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Ron Huff in Wysox Township, PA following declining health. Mary was born in Granville Summit, PA on January 10, 1944, the daughter of Jay and Evelyn Elizabeth Kilborn Burgess. She was a graduate of Canton High School with the class of 1962.
Mary was employed by the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company in Mildred, PA and as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington Township, PA for many years. Mary was a member of the Monroeton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially with her grandchildren, bus trips with the Towanda Area Senior Citizens group, playing cards with family and friends, gardening, and in early years working at Wheeler’s Greenhouse in Powell, PA. It is with love and affection that we remember Alfred Celli who passed on Aug 19, 2018. Al will be best remembered for his laughter, his joking and the teasing of those he loved.
He was a permanent fixture at the Mobil Station in Troy for many years, where he fulfilled his role of town "mayor" giving his customers a smile and a laugh with their full tank of gas before sending them on their way. He honorably served his country during the Korean War, loved to roller skate when he was younger, and in his retirement he spent most of his time outdoors gardening. Harry F. Coxhead, 81 of Austinville Road, Troy, passed away at home on June 13, 2018. Harry was born in Sayre on September 13, 1936 son of the late Harry F. and Mildred (Hosley) Coxhead, Sr. He served his country with the US Army from 1953 to 1955 and again from 1955 to 1957. Harry was retired from ShopVac/Canton Manufacturing and had previously been employed Masonite. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and fishing in his younger days and was a lifelong NASCAR Fan and followed Darrell Waltrip and Kevin Harvick. Survivors include his wife Nancy S. (Slater) Coxhead who he would have celebrated 35 years with on June 20, 2018; sons, John (Shari) Coxhead, Troy, Fred (Ruth) Coxhead, Gillett, Jason Johnston, Tucson, AZ; daughter, Sherrie (Glenn) Westerfer, Millerton; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; sisters-in-law, Karen (Charles) Masteller, Shotgun Hollow, Kathy Assumpcao, Towanda, Cindy Slater, Shotgun Hollow and many friends. |
