Carol was born on May 18th 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa; the daughter of Lyle and Sophia Miller. She was raised in Epworth, Iowa and graduated from Epworth High School where she excelled as a basketball player. In Epworth she met Charles H. Rockwell a US Navy veteran who was completing his education at the University of Dubuque, and working for Maxwell’s Store in Epworth. They fell in love and were married on June 25th 1950.
Shortly after their marriage, Charles was recalled into the US Navy during the Korean War. Carol joined Charles in California where Charles’ ship was ported. They lived in Oakland, California and Carol began her working career as a teller for Bank of America.
Carol and Charles returned to Iowa for a short time following Charles’ release from active duty with the Navy. They then returned to Canton where they made their home on Tioga Street and raised their three children. Following the graduation of the children from high school, Carol returned to the work she had chosen as a teller with the First National Bank of Canton, where she worked for over thirty years. Carol loved to help people at the bank and to make them feel welcome with friendly conversation as she served them.
