By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Senior Citizens met at the Senior Citizens' building for the last October meeting and luncheon. Bob Barnes was scheduled to present a program on Winter Preparedness, but had to cancel out as he had pneumonia. Barbara Morris was our leader, but Mary McKerrow will be back next week.
By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Senior Citizens opened on October 15th with a musical concert by Mark Antes. He sang a medley of golden oldies finishing with several gospel songs. Everyone enjoyed his presentation..
The musical program was followed by the monthly Site Council meeting. It opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord's Prayer. The minutes and treasurer's reports were read and approved. Members were asked to be sure to sign up for the luncheon at the Iron Skillet on November 11th if they intend to go. By Anna Belle Leonard The Health Fair was the main attraction for the Gillett Senior Citizens on October 8th. It was set up in the old school gym at the South Creek Township building and was hosted by ladies from the Bradford County Manor. Many different types of tests were available including blood pressure, diabetic sugar testing, oxygen level, temperature reading and others. Free flu shots were given to all who wanted them. Several local neighbors took advantage of the opportunity to get a flu shot. There were many free items for health care available also.
Barbara Morris led the meeting with a list of coming events The South Creek Firemen are having a raffle for several large items plus one prize of $300. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10. By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Senior Citizens met September 17th on a beautiful fall day. The exercise class had not been meeting regurarly, but they went for a walk around town since the weather was so nice.
Barbara Morris was with us again as Mary McKerrow is still recuperating from surgery. Site council was held and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord's Prayer. The leader again was Barbara Morris filling in for Mary McKerrow, who is out of the hospital, but still recuperating from surgery.
Several announcements were made. The furnace in the Community Building where we meet has been changed over from fuel oil to natural gas which should make heating cheaper. By Anna Belle Leonard Barbara Morris was our substitute leader on September 3rd since Mary McKerrow is in the Bradford Manor for rehabilitation after an operation. We signed and sent her a card from the group, but members were urged to send individual cards also.
The meeting began with members filling out the annual information form to keep the Area for Ageing office updated. By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Senior Citizens held their regular Thursday meeting on July 30th and finalized plans for the annual picnic on August 20th at Wells Township Park.
We will only have meetings at the Township building on the first two Thursdays, as the third week is the picnic and August 27th our leader will be away at a leadership meeting. By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Senior Citizens met on a sunny July 16th. Most of the members signed up to have breakfast at the Wellsburg Diner next Wednesday, July 22nd.
In other announcements, Robin Vanvalkenburg will be here next Thursday with vouchers for fresh fruit and vegetables for those who didn't get one before. Sign-up sheets were posted for the Senior Citizens' Wells Park picnic and also the Bradford County Manor picnic both of which are August 20th. On July 23rd, Robin Vanvalkenburg will be here again with the farmer's market vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables for those who didn't get one before The Senior -Night -Out scheduled for the 25th is canceled and we will go to breakfast at the Wellsburg Diner at 9 a.m. on July 22nd instead. By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Senior Citizens met on July 2nd and were entertained by Lee Souto's band called "Northern Harmony." Their music was familiar oldies with lot of rhythm. We would have loved to dance, but most of us could only sit and enjoy the memories.
We welcomed Phyllis Ward back. She has been recuperating from a broken ankle. Attendance was down as several regular members were away. By Anna Belle Leonard On June 18th the Gillett Senior Citizens welcomed a former leader, Joyce Stigerwalt and her husband Bruce, who were back for a visit. Our present leader, Mary McKerrow, made several announcements. The Center will be closed next week due to the Senior picnic at Alparon Park in Troy. We are having a quilt raffle and tickets will be sold at the picnic as well as several other places.
We are getting several estimates on the cost of changing the heating system from propane to natural gas. By Anna Belle Leonard The Senior Citizens' meeting on June 11th began with the walking group going for their morning stroll around town on a beautiful sunny morning.
Helen Antes entertained some of the coffee klatch with stories of her recent cruise to London and Paris with her son and daughter-in-law. Robin Vanvalkenburg was here with the vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables. She gave each member a list of the places that honor them. By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Seniors' meeting on June 4th began by playing bingo after the usual coffee hour. Winners were Eunice Haflett, Anna Kelly, Bill Connelly, Erma Warner, Paul White, Ray MacAuslan, and Marge Ulmer.
Our leader, Mary McKerrow, asked us to remember Ginny Simons who has been transferred to the Bradford County Manor. We were reminded to bring our wedding pictures next week to see if we can identify the various members. Also bake sale items need to be here next week for the following Sunday. Dry items need to be placed in individual bags. June 25th is the Alparon Park outing and those who plan to attend need to be signed up for that. By Anna Belle Leonard May 21st was dedicated to celebrating Memorial Day. A musical couple, Bob and Linda Lee, from Towanda entertained with some "oldies but goodies" and several patriotic songs.
They stayed and enjoyed lunch with us. Lester Maynard has been in the hospital again and we were glad to see him back today. By Anna Belle Leonard Upcoming entertainment at the Gillett Senior Center includes:

Several of the ladies brought baked goods made with rhubarb. Mary brought some other recipes and read a little about the plants which are considered a vegetable rather than a fruit. |
